No, the reason JR won't feel an ounce of weight for this joke is because normal people can parse the difference between someone making an offensive joke (which by definition, is not something that is meant to be taken seriously) and an actual bigot. When you are in the majority, there is a sense of power to do, say and feel how ever you want It is not necessary to care or even try to understand how a smaller group processes what you do, say and feel because you don't have to. Empathy - the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.

Btw, comedy is a matter of context and what the listener thinks about you. You can get away with a lot when people know you are a comic and think you just trying to be funny.

I was a long time listener of Rush and Glen Beck, even a little bit of Alex Jones and Joe Rogan as far back as his fighting days. I split CNN and Fox 50/50; people like me enjoy hearing the alternative point of view. But I am smart enough to discern what is stick, false, misleading, catering to your audience and meant for entertainment purposes. The scary thing is, there are a lot people who view these conservative outlets as news , this is where a lot people get their supposedly factual information about what is going on in the world. That's scary! Rogan may not be a racist, but he certainly knows racist are big part of his audience and he catering to them. Joe Rogan is a capitalist, he is into making money by tapping into the soft underbelly, the suppressed nature of the segment of the majority who don't feel so powerful.

Hm, interesting worldview. Let me ask you this, does Joe Rogan bring on Indian comics like he did today with Akaash Singh to "cater to his racist audience?" About a week ago he talked to two Hispanic women in a row - how does that fit into your calculus? Do you still think Rogan intentionally made the planet of the apes remark in a calculated attempt to appeal to his "racist" demographic (while he was talking to one of his best friends, a Cuban immigrant!) or was he just making an offensive joke with his buddies to get a laugh? Which seems more likely....
