The Trials and Tribulations of Running YouTubers

This is my concern for Phily today. Want her to do well and I think she's in top shape, but looks like it could be a 40km+ solo time trial under the sun, which is a tough gig for any runner.

It is a strange choice of race for her as everyone can see she'll be running on her own for most of the race. I suppose she needs to run a race like this for the clicks though. That will be her undoing. She wants to run at the Olympics and WCs but also wants to make money from social media.

They must pay serious dough, it would be pretty embarrassing if no British runners turned up.

Bester wasn't announced to the crowds at the start, that's piss poor.

Best has shot out in the first 5k - 2.17 pace! Ben is selling and Cole 2.18. Philly is currently on for 2.26 - going to need a big negative split.

Bester has gone out at a ridiculously hot pace. 2:17:xx pace.

Cole and Felton appear to be running together not far behind at 2:18:40 pace

Bester surely needs to rein it in. Unlike most here, I don’t mind the guy but that pace seems too quick

Ben and Coke through 5k together at 2:18:30 pace, Bester 10 seconds ahead of them

On course in London. It is hot already!

Eilish, Rose then Phily on the road at tower bridge

Charlotte Purdue gone off radar. Maybe pulled up.

UK women's pack went through 5k at 2:22 pace, which was unwise, and think they'll pay. But we'll see.

Phily is through half way in about 1.13 ish. She's going to need a big second half. I wonder if she's running alone.

If Purdue is out (not sure if it's just the tracker) then Phily will get her goal of top 3 Brit. Barring disaster, in which case it's Holly Archer's lucky day.

My money's still on Cole for the YouTubey guys.

Cole seems to be holding 2:18:xx pace well enough for the time being.

Bester slowing but still got a bit of cushion for 2:20. Be surprised if he doesn’t end up more like 2:22 though.

Felton seems to have fallen off the most so far and no longer on course for sub 2:20.

Phily splits are progressively slower every spilt. Never a good sign imo.

Cole is one of the few people I’m tracking who is speeding up… now tracking for a 2:16:xx through the halfway point.

Felton has stemmed the flow of slowing for the time being. Still tracking for a 2:20:50. Still got plenty of cushion for a big PB which would be something to be proud of. The 2:18 target never seemed realistic, particularly when the weather forecast became apparent.

Bester now tracking for just over 2:20 too so a PB is now a big ask.

Likewise a Philly PB seems a big ask but the conditions and lack of runners with her have made it tough. Another build like this and she can have another crack.

Robert Jenrick now tracking for a 4:11 but slowing down already at 10k. Hopefully his political career goes the same way
