Nothing written that says they can, but where there are lawyers and courts, anything can be attempted, and they will attempt this. It is going to be really bad, and impeachment and conviction is a certainty, so Trump either faces that or he resigns. He will not resign without something in it for him. Sometimes things are done for the good of the country, so getting him out of office is the main thing. Do we allow him to skate on criminal charges after he is out of office? I can see that happening in some way. Precedent gets set when something is done for the first time. This might be the first time.
The only way he skates away from indictments is if he is pardoned by Pence.
The senate can't make a deal like that and Trump's people wouldn't let him agree to something so blatantly unconstitutional. Why? Because such a deal would not be binding.
I wouldn't want Trump to accept a bogus deal like that. As bad as we need to get rid of Trump, it needs to be done above board.
Why does it have to be done above board? I thought you said you're saying your scared of an authoritarian takeover. If he's going to cling to power unless he thinks he safe, why not tell him he's safe? Better to lie to him than risk the whole country.

They were "awful" in your opinion because they're all true. ZERO Russian collusion. ZERO obstruction of justice.
What you TDSers seem to miss is that no one thinks Trump has never bent or broken a law. He probably has, as have most other extremely powerful businessmen.
What we found amusing was the Russia collllluuuuuusion narrative from day one. It was funny then. It's funny now. Not a single piece of evidence has been found. If you think Mueller's the only guy that can stop leaks in that city, you're just being silly. If they actually had something on him, it would've come out by now.
Meanwhile, the DOJ/FBI setup has been exposed, and 15 people in leadership roles have been first demoted, then fired or forced to resign for actions related to the Hillary Clinton AND Russia collusion investigations. And yet, Mueller hasn't interviewed Bruce Ohr yet. HAHAHA!
"Spy?... no spy... ok, spy... I mean informant... ok, spy... but only on one guy... no spy... but he should be thanking us for spying... I mean, no spy... we spied for good reason... no spy..."
If Hillary would have won the election as some election experts predicted, we wouldn't know any of this.
That is indeed quite scary. We had actual collusion between one campaign and foreign officials, paid for through a commercial research company (GPS Fusion), funneled through a law firm (Perkins Coie). The unverified allegations were then used to start spying on the other campaign. If the preferred candidate wins, then nothing comes out. If the preferred candidate loses, then the unverified allegations would then be used to start a collusion hoax that puts a cloud over the undesired candidate's image and could possibly result in impeachment proceedings.
The preferred candidate lost. But the execution was terrible, and now the jig is up.
Clinton and Trump should both face consequences for their crimes.
Either Bernie Sanders or Rand Paul should become the next President.

Agreed. Hillary and the Uranium One Deal provides enough proof of that. Thanks for posting pal.

I'm calling BS.
I've seen *plenty* of pictures of Russians in short sleeves. Even singlets.

An unconventional President ends with unconventional means. I say that's above board if lawyers and all involved say it is. Perhaps they will say they not, but I don't think we can say that just yet.
So you are saying that it's OK to subvert the constitution as long as it gets rid of Trump?
Surely you don't mean that. Legitimacy in government is paramount.

A Trump resignation avoids a Senate trial and conviction and any testimony or evidence that comes out of that.
Of course Pence will pardon Trump of any indictments/ convictions related to anything in office. Exactly what Ford did for Nixon.
Trump’s doesn’t need to make any deal with the Senate or DOJ at all.
You are correct in that there is no deal to be made with the Senate. I don't know where anyone gets the idea that Trump could begin to make a deal like that.
I still think Trump will not resign. It's not in his character to do that.
As for Pence pardoning Trump, I think the odds are that he won't grant that pardon. It is widely believed that Ford's pardon of Nixon cost him the election against Carter.
Pence believes that God intends for him to be His president. Pence will not do anything to subvert God's will.

I'm saying that his people won't let him fall for the big lie.
The thing we have to worry about is how many people will stay loyal to Trump and help him hold onto power. So far, we don't see a lot of dissent inside the Trump administration.
I'm not scared of an authoritarian takeover. That has already happened. We already have babies stolen from their mothers. Kavanaugh will be confirmed and he will work to shield the president from indictment.
The question is how long will authoritarianism continue and how far will it go?
