Thanks, Man. Much appreciated.
I have to admit that when he said his legs felt heavy during race-day warm-up my first thought was WHY DID YOU RUN THE DANG INCLINE ON FRIDAY?!
Very gracious interview, as always. Can you imagine any professional athlete of his caliber in football, soccer, baseball, skiing, etc coming across as so humble?
Yep, he's pretty amazing.
Maybe you're right about his workout on the incline --especially since two weeks is almost certainly not enough for full recovery from his S-Z effort.
I don't know what to think about these competing claims about erosion of the trail in the last 25 years,
but it was clearly a bunch hotter than optimal, and it sound like atmospheric conditions weren't too great at the upper altitudes, and it certainly sounds like a little recent rain on the trail would've helped a bunch.
And he still ran 3:27 (with what he says were deal legs --and when he says it I tend to believe it).
I don't know it he could ever run 3:16, but I'm pretty sure he could've gotten a bunch closer if everything broke better.
(I don't think it's that tough to imagine, say, a 3:22 or something.)
