Has results of NYU at Van Cortlandt. Maybe their not nearly as dead as some AR people want to think. No Schneider, but I saw him doing some kind of workout so he's running. We'll see if he runs next week in Ohio.

Well, I'd say they're still a contender in the AR, and this is the AR thread...
if we were here to only talk about contenders at nationals this thread would be called DIII XC 2008. no i believe its actually about competition within the region, the majority of which occurs not at the top, but at the bottom for those 3-6 spots that the bottom feeders scrounge up points for.
you and all the other letsrun posters like you can make a thread of your own where you only talk about schools that are "internet worthy", while we can have a decent conversation on the atlantic region, even those teams "no one" cares about, right here.
Which NYU course did they run. Did it include the back hills or was it the same as regionals last year? That makes a huge difference. Either way better than I expected.
I agree with ghostofblake when he says that it is important for SLU and NYU to run well in order for the fifth team at regionals to have a chance at being taken to nationals.
In my view, the Atlantic region deserves four teams right now. NYU and St. Lawrence can change that with a good showing. I'm eager to see Schneider in action. He is on the short list for people contending for second (and who have a chance at taking down Kosgei, all be it very slim).

If that is not a statement by Kosgei, I don't know what is. 24:39 on that course is incredibly fast!
Traditional VCP course, not the regional loop course used last year. Those are all major step-ups for the NYU guys. Not sure why everyone on here thinks TNCJ is ahead of NYU and SLU right now?? I would say an NYU with Schneider at the front is closer to SUNY G than people give them credit for. Take a look at D3 teams on VCP course over the last 5-7 years, not alot of sub 26:00 times. NYU is pretty tightly packed as well. SLU going the Kenyan route adds some luster to their chances. Unfortunate they dont think they can contend with good old fashion recruiting Northeast kids.

Kosgei's time is insane!!!! Have they changed the course? As I remember it was fairly challenging and not overly fast.

I think Kosgei's second mile was like 4;51 or something close to that. Ridiculous!!
I think it is time to start giving McDonough and NYU some more respect on these boards. They have been blasted by the majority of people who say they are nowhere near contending (while Cortland is the overwhemling favorite I think it is time to start to mention NYU as a possible #2 team in the region.)

Now on to the Kosgei race...UNBELIEVABLE. Nobody is going to beat him at Nationals. He is a completely different runner then he was a year ago and on a completely different level then everybody else. I can't wait to see what he does on the track

Some of them are much more impressive than others. Going sub 8:30 is much more difficult than just breaking 14. If he can break 8:30, he can probably run in the 13:40s, if not better.

My Predictions or Kosgei:
mile -- 3:58 indoors
3k - probably won't run the event, given everything else he does.
steeple-- 8:22 - 8:30, depending on the competition at the Penn Relays.
5k - I think he has the ability to run 13:40's but won't get into a race with the necessary competition to push him to that time. But just on his own, in a solo effort, he should be able to run 13:50.
