Strand has had an amazing emergence. He's gone from being an NCAA stalwart to being in the mix with the top guys in the U.S. That's a big jump in class. Nothing against NCAA guys, but the top U.S. guys have proven to be competitive at the highest levels. I really didn't think Strand was ready to break into the top three this soon. Wow, let's see how he develops in the next few years.
This 1500m US final is about as close to a world championship/Dl final level. There is just so much pressure to make this team. I would argue making the world championship final is easier than making the US team.
Obviously, you needed to get 5th to make the US team last year. Are we seriously typing this out, like this comment is so stupid it's making me mad.
I’m super far behind but valid crashout by Mackey there. That was super annoying behavior by Maclean and there is obviously tension between them…
What happened exactly?
I think it was about 1:50 into the race, Mackay turned around and had some words with someone. Behind her were MacLean and someone else so I'm not certain who she was addressing. My guess is one of them clipped her and Mackay took offense. I doubt she knew who it was until she turned around. It reminded me of Elle St. Pierre chastising the group when she was knocked off the track a couple years ago.
Why the hell are we watching paralympics in the main tv window Jesus Christ
Crazy considering they didn't schedule the 100m finals for the live window. Did they even show a summary of the 10,000s? I just tuned in in time to catch the 1500s.
It's so stupid that TV production is so influenced by one couple's viral moment at the Olympics. Now track is going to be just like marathon productions.
The Red Sea parted for Hocker in Paris allowing him to win. He runs now like it is going to happen every time for him. He needs to put himself in a better position going into the last lap, and especially entering the final turn, instead of waiting for everyone to move out of his way.
It seemed to me that while Kessler didn’t quite have the same gear that the top 3 had, staying behind Nuguse instead of swinging out is what actually cost him a spot on the team. He probably assumed that Nuguse wasn’t going to fade in the final 100 (reasonable given that he is a 3:43 guy), but he ended up being totally boxed on the home straight and had no forward momentum relative to the top three by the time he was free. I’m not saying this for certain, but if he swings wide with 105 to go it’s very possible that he makes the team instead of Hocker.
Nuguse has 7 points and is tied for 11th with Kerr and Giles (listed behind Kerr in 12th, not sure what the tiebreaker is). 10th is a tie for 8 points (Koech, Koech, Laros), and per the rules they take the top 10 for the 1500m.
You get 8 points for a win. So Hobbs could, with sufficiently good performance, make it to the final.
The "road to" site says there are two spots "By finishing position at designated competitions" in the 1500m, but that doesn't get Hobbs in, because it also says that "in case of a wild card the maximum quota is 4". This means we can get AT MOST one of Kessler, Nuguse in via the DL final (and realistically I think that means it's Nuguse or no one).
