GOOD but not right? why are we so excited to not medal. alittle cringe
You act like it is their birthright as freedom-loving Americans to automatically medal. Why would you assume they "should" medal if they run more aggressively? Maybe the women who beat them are just better.
This whole narrative of Americans running too conservatively costing themselves medals is just kinda stupid. After all, somebody is always going to get 4th, 5th, 10th, etc., in every race. You can't automatically assume that those people screwed up and should have finished higher. Have you considered that maybe they paced themselves better than others and actually finished higher than they might have otherwise?
It's a form of magical thinking to suggest that you just need to be aggressive, stick with the leaders, then either drop them or outkick them, all through sheer willpower and desire to win.
No kidding ... LRC would lose its mind if 3 American men made it into the top 8
I def think Keira would have challenged for a medal if trained more than 2 weeks.
Good job to everyone. That was a fun race to watch.
Agreed. Although she was smart to drop off the lead pack early, I could imagine her staying in it had she gone through an actual marathon training cycle. Still incredible what she accomplished off her "taper-only" (per her IG post a couple of weeks ago) preparation.
