So you're going to accuse him of cheating but not put in the effort to prove it? I no longer believe that you're doing this for "transparency". You must be trolling lol
I find it hilarious that Rob Pope is putting tons of hours into accusing PJ of cheating with comments everywhere and demanding the Garmin Connect links, yet won't put a single minute into plotting a simple cadence graph that would show him exactly what the raw data shows and how wrong his accusations are. In the words of UltrarunningKid, "This is what bad faith looks like."
Sneakers, I will say, every time I've looked at the data I've grabbed the JSON from Strava's activity stream API, because, well, I often use APIs to get stuff done and it's second nature to me. I told you Strava doesn't give you a GPX file, it gives you a JSON that is basically the same as the GPX.
Well... there's a big ol' "Download GPX" button lmao. So congrats, you're right about that!
I will also say, lots of the "release the data" people, Pope included, should actually make a half-ass effort. I'll try to in the next few days. I already found some interesting bits from a cursory glance.
I will also say, PK defended WG previously, which is weird and silly and makes me question his veracity overall.
I'm just saying this in advance: I don't hate PJ. He's a qualified SWO, and I respect him. He's clearly on the spectrum and somewhat mentally ill, but he's not an evil dude. He has an unhealthy outlet (running and social media) and should get professional help.
I'll ask around for more stories, but here's one y'all should enjoy.
It's pretty normal for Navy commands to have meme pages, and apparently, when he was called out in one meme (on the Cowpens), he pitched a hissy fit and tried to have it shut down.
Lmao that’s a good one. Nothing like a swo sh*tfit when he feels disrespected. I’ve been waiting for memes to show up from all this trans on bullsh*t but it’s been quiet

The default Download GPX button in Strava doesn't include cadence or extra fields, only the GPS track. To get the full fields Strava has into a file, you should use a third party extension like Sauce for Strava that can output to TCX and FIT format (it no longer does GPX). After you install the extension to a browser, it will populate the overflow dots (hamburger menu) in Strava on the left side of the page with the option to download, must be logged into Strava.
You can also create a GPX from the JSON if you know how to use a GPX library in the programming language you use.
Yeah, Rob Pope really disappointed me by his can't be arsed to spend a minute attitude when it comes to clearing someone's name with the data he already has access to, yet has gladly spent many hours over the past few weeks accusing PJ of cheating.

Easier solution I've been doing.
Copy => paste JSON from Strava in Excel, one data category at a time, e.g. cadence key-value pairs, then pace key-value pairs. Then export to CSV or just use it in Excel as is. If I had to do it 50 times I'd use a library to convert it, but sometimes the stupid way is the easiest way.
I'm confused. Are you anti-PJ? Are you trying to be a fair arbiter? Are you Sneakers 2.2?
It seems like all the stats junkies are going "I can prove he's doing it right/wrong", but aren't.
Let's play a game. Prove who the best stats guy is. Last red flag day was 3/18. First to produce a graph of pace/hr/cadence on y-axis and distance on x-axis and produce an image of it here is the true master. Accept no substitute. First person to say "do it yourself" loses, because you know what? It probably means you're full of BS and can't do it yourself.

this is a transcon not a political campaign.
attempts to besmirch his character don’t help and won’t have any effect on the outcome.

Exactly. Everyone making cheating accusations against PJ don't even look at the detailed data because they can't be arsed to take a literal minute like Rob Pope just said. Rob Pope and the accusers talk all high and mighty and spend hours/days making cheating accusations against PJ but yet they can't even take a single minute of their time to plot a simple graph from the data they already have access to and clear PJ's name.

Let's try that again. I used the wrong x-axis in the previous charts

As a lifetime hobby runner (2:35 marathon about 6 years ago) who's lurked this forum for years and manages a data analytics team at a BB bank.... y'all have no idea what data analysis is.
Exporting a file, through a download button or some screenscraping/export plugin and visualizing it is Excel is not data analysis.
Neither side has any clue what they're talking about. None of you have "technical skills in analyzing data" (as Sneakers put it). None of what you are discussing is data analysis. I'm including Sneakers, Rob, Street Ferret and everyone else in this. The clustering conversation 10+ pages back was so filled with mis-use of terminology and lack of understanding of analysis and clustering techniques.
I don't like PJ based on his Instagram. He's not my type of guy. But I have not seen a single shred of evidence that implies he's cheating.
Could someone please explain to me, since I have some free time, what would be the ONE thing that you all want to see analyze? What output do you want? Do you literally just want to see a visualization of his cadence through the course of his runs, but outside of Strava? That is not analysis, it is visualization, but I will happily do it right now.
We already had a guy claim he has two PhD's, another who claims he is a meteorologist and analyzes data all the time, another guy who claims he works in an scientific analytics firm, and Rob Pope claiming he has the skills to analyze data because he is a veterinarian. Now, we have you claiming to be a manager of a bank analytics team. Is this just a clown show? None of you have shown you can even download the data from Strava.

Respectfully (and I mean that, not sure why you are being so rude), I literally just asked you what analysis you'd like me to perform and you haven't said.
If you think being able to download data from Strava proves something, here you go:
Uplaod files easily and share them with your friends and colleagues. File upload solution for everyone. Upload big files and get a link to share effortlesly.

I just looked through your graphs above, can you explain what they are supposed to prove? Part of data analytics is being able to tell a story with data, provide insights and make informed decisions. A bunch of random plots is not analysis.
Now, back to my original point, could anyone else here please tell me what visualization or analysis is required? Do we just need a visualization of cadence, HR and instantaneous speed plotted together over the course of one of Paul's runs? That requires literally no analysis techniques or methods but I am happy to do it.

Here is one thing I would like to know but don't have the time or skill to attempt:
Across all of the activities so far, is there a sequence of 30 cadence or HR points that occurs more than once? Excluding the frequent zeroes since those crop up consecutively often, so perhaps keep it to time spent running in the 170-190 range.
If there are duplicate sequences, what is the p-value of that given the amount of data so far? If duplicates of size 30 are to be expected at this sample size then then maybe push it to 60 in a row, i.e. 2 separate matching minutes of HR or cadence data.

Nah shut up. We all love some good sea stories. Keep them coming

I'm not trying to be rude, just that I have had more claimed analytics PhD's and managers in this thread that I could open a McDonald's and fill all the positions and productivity wouldn't be any different than if I hired teenagers.
The 3 graphs I posted above were what theweatherman wanted to see to demonstrate who can actual get the data and who is a data analytics "PhD" that just talks hot air (because of what Rob Pope claimed and then said he can't be arsed).
