To be perfectly frank, any number of ways.

One, which I don't believe has ever been thought of or brought up on this thread, is that he could have actually gotten a hotel room near the halfway point or later, ran off the course while still looking like a bandit to a rented vehicle. Drive to the hotel and change then pop back on later in the race. How does he do that you ask?

Well, at the pace that he's running, more runners than you can imagine stop for a potty break, yes it happens.

He goes in the porta potty and comes out with a number now exposed (or not) and jumps back in. If a runner came out of the crowd and onto the course near a bunch of porta potty, would you ask him anything? Remember, you're focusing on "your" race, not looking for a runner jumping onto the course.

His new shoes or other clothing are put on in the hotel and he appears to be a guy running towards the course to check out the race (100's of people do that on Patriot's Day, if not 1000's). That's just one of many ways as far as getting back on the course. He could just blend in as well which would be easy at that pace.

When Oscar Miranda was caught, I recall that 2 college guys watching the race remember seeing someone of his description entering the course very late in the race. Had he not been so greedy, how they have remembered him? It's because of the story that followed and them reading about it and realizing that he was who they saw. 2:17 pace and a sub 3 are 2 very different paces.

Also remember, he's been seen in photos very close to the crowd and almost makes it appear as he's running with someone or waiting for a friend.

I can come up with many different ways that he could do it and in fact, I could do it myself and not get caught. Again, it's not rocket science. Find the mats, know where you have to be at 11:00, or noon, or whenever.

The Bay Shore Marathon...heck I could go this May and cheat and unless you were looking for me, you'd never have a clue. The difference is, I would get nothing out of doing that and feel like a total loser, he doesn't.

The wardrobe change could be the way I explained it above, or one of many other ways. The friend helping theory, i don't buy it because eventually the canary will sing or at least would have sung by now. He's smart enough to do it alone, believe me, and I'm not giving him too much credit because I personally don't think you have to be that smart to pull it off at Boston, I really don't.

He was caught in a relay in Detroit, do any of you think the other runners on the relay knew? Of course not and his story about how it may have happened doesn't add up either, hence I believe they were disqualified.

The Crim, I've done it several times. At that pace you always have someone in front of you or behind you that you would never unknowingly go the wrong way. I've run from 55-60 and even if there's a gap, you would always see someone in front of you and know where to go. I ran 57 plus when I was 16, how come I didn't get lost? I'm from Macomb County and had never been on the course in my life and don't think I had ever even been to Flint.

Long winded, yes, but you asked. The ball cap and bandana came from a car or hotel room near the later stages of the race as I doubt that he would stash it in the woods and risk it not being there. A car or a hotel room, that's the answer people.

After reading this post, I have to say that there's a lot of truth to it and he's probably not too far off from how it was done.

She could be a very interesting role, especially if she's either an accomplice, or a psychological factor initiating the cheating spree.

Um, he had splits at EVERY 5 km point in the '10 Boston race. Your theory doesn't work. Everything else you had to say on your post has already been gone over LONG ago.

He cheated at Crim '09 because he left the course somewhere after 5 miles and made his way east to the downtown area and raced down the finish straight on Saginaw St. His explanation for finishing a race he'd shortcut, 'I got caught up in the excitement'. Sometime later, he had his name & time removed from results - but not before they were up on the net and in results captured by a # of media outlets. He had his name removed because he knew nobody would believe he ran that fast - 56+ minutes. 7 weeks later he shortcut his leg on a marathon relay in Detroit. He answered questions badly when called out on it and officials DQ'd him & his relay. Relay members were/are pissed off! His explanation to me when I quizzed him about the shortcut, 'I must've followed someone.'

It's staggering to consider the deceit he's mired in & unwillingness to come clean. It'd be a breath of fresh air to learn the hows & whys - but that's up to Dr L.

I can't believe there is 100+ pages on this Lip Kitton guy. So what if he cuts courses? What harm is that doing to you? It's certainly not hurting the sport. It seems most of you are butthurt, and have nothing better to do with your time than to exploit Litton. Pathetic.

I've run Boston several times and watched twice, going from point to point. Do you know how many people in Boston do that? Tons!!!!!!!!

Cars are everywhere on those side streets and he could find a spot in enough time to get to the next check point, easily. Without an accomplice, who would show up in photos, there is NO other way.

If you can't reproduce the chip, meaning to make several and have helpers to cross the check point, then there is only 3 ways to get there, run, bike or a car (the train wouldn't work). Did that give you a breath of fresh air Scott? If there is another way, let's here it.

No clue if Kip really reads this stuff, but if I were him I'd be laughing at you Scott as you are over thinking what is obvious. How did Rosie and Oscar get on the course...was it magic? Oscar didn't show up in photos either, big surprise.

I have a friend who lives near Natick and he agrees with me saying it would not be difficult to do. Can you drive 3.1 miles in 19-20 minutes? He only has to walk across the mats and move on as if he's waiting for a friend who already went by, not to mention that he obviously ran part of it, after all he is a runner.

I think the bike theory would be the easiest to implement at Boston. I'm sure you could scout out some side streets to allow you to bike a good segment of the race. Run a quick first leg, leave the course, grab a bike, then continue on by ducking on and off the course to cross the mats, return to the bike and keep going forward. Eventually, you park the bike, and run in the last 5 or 6 miles. You could have a jacket and set of clothes on the bike to cover up your running gear. You'd just have to be smart enough to remember which outfit to wear when running, which has given our hero some difficulties.

Non-elites leave the course all the time to "tend to business," and nobody thinks twice about it. I've run off the Boston course to take a leak.

I don't agree with you dissing Scott who is one of the good guys but generally what you have said is spot on, all through this thread there have been people clinging desperately to the idea that cheating in marathons is exceptionally complicated. They will make the oddest assertions such as "Its impossible to get off the race course" I can't accept that they are really that obtuse.

Is the issue of who registered Dr. Litton for the Cowtown Marathon, that indoor marathon, and the 2012 Boston Marathon addressed in the article? Dr. Litton did not register himself for any of these races.

If you read my initial post, you would have read that he was wearing a jacket. What do you want me to do? Rip it off of him to see his bib#?

I think there were plenty of people who said he must have used a car or a bike along the Boston course. People were just questioning how easy it would be to exit and re-enter the course so many times.

Was the original part of your theory the hotel room? Why would he need that? He could change clothes in the car.

He's right, Mr. Hubbard has a tad of arrogance in his words and I too would have given it back. Mr. Hubbard has not said anything that we didn't already know. Why is he telling the guy a quote about what Litton said at the Crim? Who cares? I ran it in the 90's twice and he's right, no one would get lost on that course, meaning he cheated, no surprise there. Mr. Hubbard wants to point out "HIS" theory when in fact, there is actually is no other way to get from point to point unless you use a bike, a car, a friend, or actually run the damn thing (all which have been mentioned). Getting him to admit it and say how does nothing as it's not magical at all, just cheating.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. All that has been said, changing in the car and the rest and not just by the poster to which you appear to be referring to, but many. Redundant much?
