Can someone give me the TLDR on why Strava data = bad and Garmin data = good?
Because it's not actually about Strava or Garmin. Rob and the old ultrarunners are simply using the Garmin demand as a cover for their need to assert dominance over PJ. Rob demanding the Garmin Connect links from PJ is laughable when Rob doesn't any technical skills to analyze data. He simply wants PJ to bow down to him and the rest of the old guard.
Can you explain how you use Strava in the site's live tracking feature? You seem to be quite knowledgeable about Strava, does Paul also use the Beacon feature? I ask because you seem to claim to have access to raw data on a scale I was not aware was available LIVE through Strava. What is Paul's Garmin inreach mini tracking interval and how do you use and sort this information to display on the site?
Paul uses a Garmin InReach transmitter. When the tracker is pinging, we color in the completion track (blue) up to that point. The only data we get from that is position.
The tracker pings every 10 minutes on a URL we linked above and we poll that every 90s for an update.
When he uploads to Strava, we update all the summary metrics and add a new entry to the activity list, list of cities run through, etc.
We don't get anything live from Strava during the run - only after upload.
Everything you see on that tracker website as well as everything you see on Strava including all of the data behind their graphs are available for raw download in full resolution by any logged in Strava user. You just have to read Strava's docs (which few people have reason to do).
The gpx files are downloadable without even logging into Strava, but those will only contain position and elevation.
I am acting in good faith, faith in Paul and those who wish to see transparency. Yes, I could break him, but I'm aiming to put this to bed as, frankly, it's doing my head in. I want to be genuine. That's my desired outcome.
You don't know a thing about me, yet the first thing you do is act in bad faith and go looking for my failings. Twice. That says a lot more about you than me. I'm hugely supportive of the ultra community (and that includes Paul), as you can see from my current twitter posts, my support of Russ Cook (who is far more of a local issue to me) and my constant support to those in the USA Crossens Facebook.
Aren't you meant to be some sort of scientist? Not much of an evidence gather, are you, mate?

Can you just analyze his Strava data or at least explain why its insufficient? Are you just trolling with this release the Garmin stuff?

You don't know a thing about PJ, yet the first thing you do is act in bad faith and go demanding his Garmin files and accusing him of cheating even after there were third party witnesses to this run (including Pete Kostelnick and Cockerell's secret sleuth).
I first gave you the benefit of the doubt you didn't cheat in your run across America but now I'm not so sure I should give you that benefit because I can demonstrate with your own data that it does show you cheating, just like what you look to do to PJ.
What technical skills do you even have in analyzing data to be demanding the Garmin Connect links?
I still don't understand why Rob needs the Garmin files to do his analysis. If he was really interested in transparency he'd look at the Strava data and reported back on if he thinks Paul is cheating. This whole release the Garmin files bit seems like he's just trying to stir the pot.

To answer Sneakers first, I didn't act in bad faith. I was approached and shown the Strava charts which look dodgy. We all know they look dodgy AT TIMES. My reply was that I'd heard the same the same about Russ Cook and seeing as we mutually follow each other, I showed them his Garmin data to prove he was bona-fide. GOOD FAITH. I tried the same with Paul and I couldn't find him, despite the fact that he would be on Garmin Connect. So I asked for them. I've also messaged Paul privately offering assistance and had no reply.
So that kinda answers your Strava question. Strava charts are a very rough guide to what is happening. Potentially prone to error, by the sound of it. The Garmin data is the key for an interested Joe Public, benign or otherwise.
Sneakers, give it a rest mate. You don't need special skills, have you looked at Garmin Connect? They do it for you. You can apologise for your misreading of my character at any time, but I'm not sure I have the time to wait.

I didn't misread your character, I was getting you to admit you have no technical skills and you wrote it as such. The fact that you went demanding the Garmin Connect links and think there is no skill needed. The fact that you have no idea how to download the same 1 second interval data from Strava. The fact that you don't know how to process raw GPS data from Strava to derive the additional data. You have shown you have zero technical skills. If you have any skills in analyzing data, you wouldn't be demanding the same data from Garmin links.
PJ was right to ignore you because you don't have the skills to warrant handing the Garmin links to, the same data the exists publicly on Strava if you know how to download from Strava. Do you need me to teach you?

You know you can download the Strava data behind those charts? Its all sampled at once per second. Is that not precise enough for your analysis?

Well, I am a veterinary surgeon, with a PhD, the study of both involved stats, so maybe I don't claim to be the International King of Stats, but I am pretty handy when it comes to looking at data and evidence. So...probably have sufficient skills and maybe if I'm ahead of the curve to some, I still think a decent majority could see the Garmin "light", especially if I showed them, which I have, of course, offered to do.
Here's one of my published papers, by means of proof of the PhD, as it seems you're sceptical of everyone else's scientific ability apart from your own.

Rob - don't feed the troll, he's just trying to distract you away from my pending transcon WR attempt announcement after I get $100k donations and 250k TikTok followers.
