PS. We didn't put this in the article, but for the record, when Kyle called Jonathan back, he started the interview by squashing the doping rumors.
"That could not be further from the truth relative to doping. That’s not true at all, so not quite sure where that came from."
Then he said this later:
"You have my word, nothing even remotely close [to doping]."
You know what’s crazy about this? Were there demands made of Schweizer when she didn’t race indoors this year? Did anyone contact her coach and agent? She certainly wasn’t active on her social media…probably because she was depressed that she couldn’t race. I don’t recall seeing any endless speculation about it. I’m only using Karissa as an example. This happens all the time with these pro runners, and Valby is being held to a different standard this time.
Schweizer doesn’t play the same “look at me” social media game that Valby does (see someone’s post above of Valby’s ‘thirst trap’ photo from Florida two days ago). It’s fine for Valby to do that, but you just can’t equate the two. That said, I do agree that if she wants to take a break from posting on any of her platforms, it shouldn’t be anyone’s place to criticize her for it or to leap immediately to crazy accusations.
I doubt many people look at the account that picture is on. How many people even know about it? I’m not sure how it’s even relevant anyway.
Karissa’s Instagram. She doesn’t look bad in a bikini, tbh.

Fair points! But, I still think trying to equate Valby and Schweizer when it comes to social media persona (their actual athletic achievements are a very fair comparator) is not going to get you far - I think the fact this “story” took over LR the way it did is enough evidence of that :)
This is unprecedented for a popular athlete who needs socials to fulfill contractual obligations. This should be front page news.
Discus.
Or the fact that there’s a whole lot of middle aged men that stalk this girls whole life on social media

sounds like hysterical bullsh!t . Also it is very possible to look at a couple of her pictures and feel nothing like arousal. who are you to assume this cant be done or isnt common.
I hate to say it, because I've been a fan, and I think a successful Valby is great for the sport. I don't believe her dad. Just a gut instinct. The lack of any info on what the injury is or when she might be back is telling.
I pray that I'm wrong and will enjoy eating crow if/when any positive developments come out.
If a doping ban was in the works, the athlete's father/agent would be the last person to admit it. Imagine that conversation: "Yes. Now that you mention it. My daughter was banned for doping." Generally athletes won't acknowledge it until after it is announced and will pretend all is well until the bitter end. Then they will feign shock and make some half-baked contamination claim.
What gave this thread life is that it is so overwhelmingly believable, that it would surprise absolutely no one if it were confirmed that she doped. No one actually buys the cross-training story whether they claim to or not. It is all too good to be true. But so is the idea that dopers with any wherewithal will ever get caught. Hope springs eternal.

It's quite amazing how little it takes to make you people believe something. There is nothing pointing to her doping. Absolutely zero. Some idiot posts a fake Flotrack image last night and people think it's real despite being so poorly done even Stevie Wonder could detect it was fake. The damning evidence so far seems to be that she deleted her Instagram. She deleted her IG before either USAs or Paris as well, I don't recall which it was or it may have even been for both. That's the cause for alarm? Some idiot starts a rumor and you all just run with it based on your "gut" instincts? Well guess what, I have a gut feeling you like to fondle the freshman boys in the locker room after XC practice. The lack of any info to say otherwise has me concerned. I pray that I'm wrong and will enjoy eating crow if/when any positive developments come out.

I think the kicker for me was the social media thing not making any sense. There's 0 reason why she has to have it on her phone. I get not wanting to be on it, but she makes enough (largely because of her social media presence) to hire someone to manage it and never think about it herself.

Why would her dad belabor it? A doping charge is going to come out in the wash. I guess the only caveat is if there’s some sort of technicality with whereabouts, contamination etc. Phrasing-wise maybe her deleting IG has nothing to do with anything. Either way, he’s going to look bad if he lied. Granted, someone brought up Haas and Shelby and tbh I’m unaware if we ever got clarity if he knew about the whole thing or Shelby kept him in the dark. And from there even who was calling the shots as far as how he’d justify her absence.

Why does he need to give details about the injury? This is beyond dumb at this point.

Very interesting the limitations of your second sentence there.
But im sure that i shouldn’t assume anything more than a couple pictures, or her every action, should be anything to presume any manner of ill intent

If you think this is stupid, wait until you find out her Instagram is back up.

Without accusing Valby, it is worth noting that a central part of every doping case is athletes and their representatives just straight up lying to everyone. I forget who it was, someone from USADA, but they said the most shocking thing about the Lance Armstrong case was how he just lied to their faces and did it convincingly. Think about Houlihan and Schumacher, Katir, Kiprop, all just straight out lied to anyone who asked, and in some cases, got angry about the suggestion that doping was involved. People, especially journalists, think they have such good in-built BS detectors, but it's actually very easy to deceive even cynical people.

This reminds me of Marion Jones. She denied and denied and people believed her. Gabby Thomas reminds me of Marion Jones except that Gabby got caught.
Well then the good thing is she will come back magically faster than ever without any lag time in regaining full fitness. The magic arc trainer never fails.
Yeah but its like that for most top athletes.Theyre all on drug cocktails. Doping is part of the sport, most sports in fact .I dont know anything about parker (she could be clean for all i know),but theres a truckload of more obvious, blatant dopers out there than her.

Maybe he thinks there will be some Gabby Thomas type of luck. Or Bernard Lagat. We all saw the Shelby thing play out.

Marion Jones, Ben Johnson, the list goes on. Even today, Ben Johnson still doesn't acknowledge that he cheated. That media call with Houlihan and Schumacher should be a touchstone moment for track journalists. They lied over and over again, and got angry about any suggestion that their version of events was not the correct one. Jerry was furious, but knew he was defending a lie. And as it turns out, the story fell to pieces. People you like will lie to you, it's best to come to terms with that.
