Two SW boys from the same team (Cheyenne Mountain CO) finished in the top 20. Had their 3-5 been dead last at NXN (they did have a bunch of other guys with SBs in the 15:30-16:00 range) they still would have beaten both NY teams and a HL team.
And that team was 12th at SW.
Castle View CO just won RunningLane.
They were 14th at SW.
The signs were there all along that the Southwest was OP. Woodbridge made it clear.
I think where everyone started to get it wrong was after Clovis. Tully was extremely generous with the speed ratings and everyone said, "Oh wow - CA is Back!" despite the fact that it was really just a bunch of Cali schools (and Crater) beating up on each other. The next set of National rankings put like a half dozen CA schools in and bumped out a handful of SW schools...because how could they possibly be that good?
Equating NXR SW to NXN is not as crazy as it first sounds.
You don't have to run the "last place" scenario with Cheyenne Mountain. Their 3-4-5 ran at Runninglane. If you plug their speed ratings into NXN they score 260 points to place 9th, just in front of CDA.
If you don't buy the speed ratings or think they would have run poorly in the NXN slop you can add 20 places for each kid. They're still around 13th. Hard to see them doing much worse than that. Again, this is the team that placed 12th at NXRSW.
Niwot and American Fork both scored fewer points at NXN than NXRSW. Herriman was close. It's not hyperbolic to say NXN was only slightly more competitive than NXRSW from a team perspective.
I think the reason this guy plugged in the CM 3-4-5 to last place was to show how weak the NY region is and how shallow the Heartland region is
Well that would not affect CBA. NY just does not have the spark it did so not much difference there. Open enrollment only affected Herriman getting Spencer.
You're kidding, right?
Even in a historical down year for NY, nobody wants to race against a Suburban Council all-star team. Boys or girls.
Based on the NXN, Mountain Vista girls would beat a NY all star team. Niwot boys would destroy a NY all star team. Those little 100,000 person communities would eat up your 19+ million person state. If you want to start cherry picking all star teams from select regions, the South Denver suburbs (Mountain Vista, Chaparral, Cherry Creek, Heritage), Colorado Springs (Air Academy, TCA), Boulder (Niwot, Boulder, Fairview, Riverdale Ridge) would destroy a Suburban Council All-Star girl’s team. On the boy’s side, Boulder (Niwot, Boulder), South Denver Suburbs (Valor Christian, Mountain Vista, Castle View, Cherry Creek, Arapaho, Rock Canyon, Thunder Ridge), Colorado Springs (Coronado, Cheyenne Mountain), etc. would obliterate your sectional all star team. I’m sure there are suburbs in Utah that would do the same. There are probably 3 additional girls teams and four additional boys teams from the SW that would finish in the top 20 at nationals and a slew of individuals that would qualify from other regions. There isn’t as much district crossing in Colorado that you have been led to believe, and there are lots of good programs. Many within 20 minutes of each other.
Buchanan CA Girls was the only team that was able to podium that was not from the southwest region. Southwest took all other podium spots for boys and girls
So why don't they combine NE and New York to one region and move Colorado to midwest. This would allow for more teams to make it from the SW. Literally, Mountain VIsta's JV team could make it to NXN in other regions. Fossil Rifge was 4th at NXR and 8th at NXN. The absurdity is laughable. Chaparal should have been at NXN they would have probably been 10th. absolutely ridiculous that this is a NATIONAL meet and yet it doesn't exactly represent the best teams in the nation.
Chaparral is returning everyone except for their #1, but it’s kind of sad that they might be one spot from NXN again next year because of all the ridiculous talent that will remain Southwest (Lone Peak, Niwot, Mountain Vista, Air Academy)

I agree! They should have been there this year. The Texas school was a joke to be able to go, and most of the schools from the Midwest don't hold a candle to the SW. It's heartbreaking to see A nationally ranked team that can't even get to NXN.

Maybe this shows how weak the South region is. Of Course the Carroll boys are great, but if they are making it every year there must not be much competition
The South is actually very strong with individuals, just not teams. A lot of this has to do with the UIL and kids not changing schools. Carroll and Vandergrift and teams from The Woodlands area are what we have. Historically the South has not traveled well to NXN.
My personal pet peeve with NXR South is with the course. I find it is not wide enough for long enough at the start. And with so many mediocre teams in the race, kids who really shouldn't be in that division clog up the course in the early stages and make it hard to pass.

The Texas at large finished 7th overall.
He was talking about the girls teams.
Flower Mound girls took 14th and Southlake Carroll took 22nd. Based on speed ratings, both teams did much better at Woodbridge, which is the meet that Flower Mound won

I don't think it diminishes the value of other south schools and how they would have done.
Bridgeland had an off race and rebounded well at Runninglane as did Katy.
The south course punishes poor starts. So if you have a runner get out slow, good luck.
The top 20 girls and boys teams at each Nike Cross Regional will be acknowledged as NXR All Region Teams. Nike will send congratulatory banners marking the achievement of each of the 20 different club teams from the girls' co...
