Exactly. I saw Elon's coach go to Duke this year ( I think in May or June) and a couple of his athletes followed him, one freshman (rising sophomore) and one junior (rising senior). I wonder how the latter's credits transferred over or if she'll have to take 4.5/5 years in total to graduate but it makes sense to me. It's incredibly late in her college career and she'll be leaving behind some things, but at the same time it's Duke.

I can't really see why anyone would do that from Tennessee to Colorado though. Schools are basically ranked the same and I can't imagine pushing graduation back for that. Especially if you're like a 13:59 guy, nowhere near good enough for any competitive even NCAA level running let alone pro deals. Just stay and get your education

I’m assuming that he knows about the new “17 runner limit rule” but he might have been ignorant enough to not know that this change does not take into effect UNTIL fall 2025.
For some of the people he cut, this would have been their last year of eligibility. Like Jake Derouin.

Yes he knows. He didn't want to waste time getting to know guys for 1 year. No point.

Long live the new king. At some point you have to take the bandaid off. He just did it right away. College sports are that way. My first year of university I went to a program where they got rid of the coach. I walked on, bear a bunch of the legacy runners who were on scholarship, but instead of getting a scholarship, the new coaches brought in five foreigners the next season, so I transferred. D1 college is a tough business. Things like this are just part of it. No program I ran for ever rostered more than ten, so seventeen is a step up IMHO.

He needs time to put together a good roster and build the program. With 17 spots for X-C, he has plenty of spots to bring in quality Americans and Internationals. I've said it again and again, a 60/40 or 70/30 American/International split would work great. If you're a quality distance coach at a well-funded altitude school, you have ZERO excuse to not be good...PERIOD! Sean now has all of the tools for success, give him a few years and then judge.

Colorado had a rough go at Big 12 indoors. men finished second to last and women finished dead last. i know they're in a big rebuild but I figured they're fare better.

Looks like the roster continues to change. More footlocker finalists missing from the team than in Sept.

As a parent of what you all seem to be referring to as a “blue chip” international recruit I must confess the way the whole NCAA D1 thing is progressing is as concerning as it is confusing. Do we think this brutal approach to rosters will become more common place? And that Freshman will have to hit the ground running and progress pretty damn quickly?

You all seem very passionate about CU but it clearly is in transition and at the very least is a risk. Are there top level programs that you think will still be able to commit to taking a kid and developing them no matter what, ie through tough times or injury? Or will the the new NCAA architecture eventually drag everyone into the mud?

The NCAA will definitely be tougher going forward than it was in the past. There will be more college transfers and more international runners at the top D1 schools, and less incoming freshman. The development of freshman/sophomores will be done mainly at lower level schools. If those freshman/sophomores develop into fast runners then they can transfer to a top level school.

But even more than that issue, Carlson is a lousy human being. Many of his runners can't stand him and some of those have transferred just to get away from him.

And as a coach of one of those lower level schools, if we are providing a full and a kid wants to skip out after developing to a 'top level school' (who is only 'top level' because they have $$$), I'll be pissed.
