Who cares. CBU is just executing a cheat code and handing out a bunch of scholarships to old-ass foreign dudes. Not a single home-grown American kid in that list, and the youngest “freshman” is 21. Why should we celebrate a team like that?
Actually, the university's mission is to bring Christianity to the world and be an educational center for training international students for Christian ministry. That happens to align nicely with recruiting internationally for talented Christian athletes.
How convenient. According to CollegeFactual, international students comprise 2.8% of the general student body at CBU, but on the XC team it appear to be 100%. Not impressed.
Valby seemed indifferent to the conditions, simply owned the course. i can't imagine what her time would have been if conditions were good. an amazing performance.
The slippery foot-plants on such a course are very energy-sapping and sometimes quite treacherous, at the risk of injury. Valby’s relatively high center-of-mass would seem to be a disadvantage on such a course, but as Kara Goucher said on the broadcast (maybe with a bit of hyperbole), at times Valby seemed to be “popping off the ground”. She really charged those hills (some quite steep), too!
Not to diminish Valby's very fast time (course record I think) or dominant win, but the first 20 runners were as fast or faster than they were last year. Further back in the pack the runners as a group got slower. My theory is that the bad conditions do not affect the leaders as much as those further back. The leaders can pick their path easier than those in the middle of a group further back, who also see a course with more runners having torn up the course ahead of them. But just my theory.

Interesting. Was that the case for the males, too?
Parker set a fast pace from the get-go, just like at Natty’s, which may have positively influenced the finishing times of all the leaders behind her.
Can confirm. It was pretty spread out in that top group and it was fairly easy to avoid muddy patches. The grass was also less torn up during the women’s race, especially for the front pack. I would still say that it was more difficult to run faster than last year. The wind was noticeable and you had to be more careful on turns and downhills.

I don't think Parker influenced anybody's race but Tuohy and Bunnage (who clearly paid for the fast early pace). Bunnage might have been 6 or 7 if she had stayed back with the trailing pack.

Gonna be honest, I was a "Tuohy will never lose to Valby" person, but she proved me wrong. Not sure who wins ncaa's now.
If I had to guess today I would say Valby wins. Although I am generally a Tuohy fan and will still root for her.
Unless there was truly something going on (bad day, heavy training block), I jusr don't think we see big changes between Nutty and NCAAs. Am I wrong? Valby isn't going to get worse by NCAAs.

I think the ‘influence’ has a ripple effect, because runners see the people in front of them and typically don’t want to get shown up too badly, and subconsciously think “if they can and are doing it, I should be here, too.”

comparing splits, everybody but the leaders were slightly ahead of last year's pace at 2K and 4K while the leaders were well ahead. Valby was 13:00 at 4K while Tuohy et al were 13:35 last year. Chmiel was 13:32 this year.

Having prior experience on that challenging course would be a huge benefit, and the veteran’s (like Chimiel) ability to gage their effort was demonstrated in the results.

Not quite true for the men though. The top guys seemed to run about 10-15 seconds slower this year. Granted that is 8k versus 6k, but still slightly slower.

About time, now we can say this is a rivalry before is was just a one sided butt whoopin.
"one sided butt whoopin"? Really?
2021 XC Nats - T: 19:43.1, V: 19:50.3 = 7.2
2022 East Reg - T: 15:27.14, V: 15:29.07 = 1.93
2022 NCAA - T: 15:18.39, V: 15:20.1 = 1.71
2023 XC Nats - T: 19:27.7, V: 19:30.9 = 3.2
2023 East Reg - T: 15:31.00, V: 15:33.43 = 2.43
2023 NCAA - T: DNS, V: 15:30.57
5 races, Tuohy won by a TOTAL of only 16.47. The last four races it was only by 9.27 seconds total. Valby crushed her today by 12.3 in one race. That is a butt whoopin. If Tuohy would have dared step on the track at NCAAs after the 1500, Valby would have beaten her by at least 30 seconds and probably closer to 45+, if Tuohy would even have finished the race.

is this how little understanding of racing this site has now? Valby's win today was definitely the most dominant win of any of these head to heads , but the point of racing is to win. 5-0 is 5-0 whether its 1 second or 30. TuOhY OnLy WoN bY 16 SeCoNdS is so braindead its unreal.
