For all the hate power gets for being a sprint coach you'd think he'd be better at telling his guys to get out hard

I refuse to take racing advice from johnnies until they beat wisconsin lutheran. also, brian power might look kind of like a leprechaun but I would much rather take his racing advice than follow whatever the johnnie coach told lloyd at nationals.
Lloyd has had more success than any Northfield JV warriors. He, like most of the Oles and several Carls, had a rough day. It was his last race as an Johnny. Gotta feel for the guy.
Power is too tall to be a leprechaun. He looks like a guy that gets really excited to set up Catan and makes a joke that doing so is his exercise for the week. But it's not a joke and his strategy is equally as bad in gaming as it is in running. He's definitely the guy that just uses longest road because he thinks its funny that sounds like a long run.

This is just dumb. Give it a rest. We’d all love to be failing into 13th in the country.
Except for the Lloyd comment. Congrats to him on an outstanding career. He’s a true grinder and tough racer.
@NotKevBot you're just lucky Bocovich didn't come back for a 5th year. The Oles would have been nearly unstoppable. Congrats to him on an outstanding DII Championship.
He is so much faster now. Same for Kosche. Not exactly a testament to Power's coaching prowess.
St. Olaf has so many advantages over other MIAC schools, I guess it makes sense to have a terrible coach to balance everything. Northfield girls placed really high at State, so he's at best the fifth best coach in Northfield.
I fully expect him to drop the ball Indoors again. His race strategies for Bocovich and Kelly at Macalester showed a total lack of knowledge of the sport. With that in mind, here are my picks -
5K - 1. Bati, 2. Grove, 3. Kelly, 4. McKee, 5. Bowman
3K - 1. Bati, 2. Boone, 3. Gabe 4. Roy, 5. Kelly
Mile - 1. Boone, 2. Gabe, 3. Roy, 4. Tucker, 5. Nick St. Peter
1000m - 1. Clausing, Tucker, 3. Getinet, 4. Tor, 5. Rupnow
800m - 1. Clausing, 2. Getinat, 3. Tommy, 4. Douglass, 5. Meier
DMR - 1. St. John's, 2, Carleton, 3. Scholastica, 4. Macalester if Tor is back.
Anyone of note racing this weekend? Fiona is going to BU.
Based on his strava Olaf Coffey is chasing a world record this weekend. We'll see if he or any of his friends break 9:00.

Guys dont forget to bookmark this list too so we can all laugh at it in a couple months
Hearing he'll have strong competition from Ole great, Pushkin Nabokov. No current Ole can match his prowess in all areas of life.

Don’t worry, I’m already laughing at it right now. Also, are we going to keep on this thread for distance in 24, or will all of that fill the general track forum?
Rumor has it that CSB standout Fiona Smith is taking her remaining eligibility to NC State, several reliable sources report seeing Smith with Tuhoy and Laurie Henes at La Playette this past weekend in Collegeville…

What happened to this conference, we used to talk solely about men's running. This conference is not the same without Dan Wilson.

considering the fact that the miac women brought home both national championships this year, and the men couldn't break into the top 25 individually or in the top 10 teams, i'd say miac women effectively ran the conference this year in review
Fiona just set the D3 indoor 5k record with a 15:50.48. Hope she continues to enter in competitive races

What a beast. Super happy for Fiona and for Coach Balder-Lanoue, who is really easy to root for.
Given the rumors of Fiona going to NC State (among other candidates), was interesting to see her less than a half second behind Grace Hartman (different heats, though).
Quite a run by Fiona.
Meanwhile the Oles were very underwhelming while racing themselves. Power starting a strong bid to not win Coach of the Year again.
Fiona confirmed to NC State!
My brother did a recruiting visit at Olaf last week. He actually enjoyed meeting with Power and the team. The team may be even weirder than advertised, but in a fun way. A funny sidenote- Power mentioned purchasing an electic scooter to commute to work and ride alongside his athletes at practice.
Both my brother and my dad were very confused by the training systems. It didn't seem like Power could even describe what they do. It didn't sound like knows the science of training at all and he admitted he never knows where the team is running when he sends them out.
He described the workouts as sort of a choose your own adventure where the athlete has to hit a certain standard within the workout to progress or they are removed from the workout and that each workout has several paths within it so they could start tempoing but add 400's or even run 2K repeats that may have random tempo work thrown in depending on the what the chart says. The chart is a spreadsheet printed from some old training book and he relies on it for everything. The team never knows what the full workout will be until the end of the day and if they don't hit Power's "standard" they may never learn what the whole workout is. This is supposed to be flexible since the workout days are so intense no-one ever completes the workouts. He said the women's team runs harder on easy days than his men and that sometimes he steals workouts from the women's team since they're so good.
On the other hand, it sounds like the 800m group is only doing double threshold work and lifting four days a week. It didn't sound like he coaches that group.
My brother is visiting several other MIAC schools soon, so I'll post what I learn about their training systems.
