I’m just beating a dead horse by now, and this won’t be a popular take, but she ran an event that wasn’t her best, expecting to win because she’s Katelyn Tuohy. Simple as that. Got what was coming to her.

who are you to say she's out of cycle? She ran well through regionals. Clearly the Texas heat got to her just like it got to many other distance athletes. If you look at her TFFRs, she's been running at a high level for over a year. This is probably her worst performance since her freshman year, and still finished seventh in the country.
we might need to start a dialogue on Henes this season. She’s a great coach but like NAU, there was not a strong NC state presence for distance this year. They did have 3 runners in the 10k but besides that, Tyynismma was the only person on the team to have a solid outdoor season the whole way through and she came in January. So her base was built up through Alabama. Sam Bush and Sydney Seymour, both all americans last year got hurt and missed ACC’s and regionals. Tuohy obviously hasn’t been herself since the 15:03 and probably before then. Chmiel should be the 2nd best distance runner in the NCAA rn. Blue chip high school recruit who was overshadowed by a national record holder and 2x NXN champ in her own state, dropped in both the 5 and 10k at nationals, not even close to the win. Everyone else kinda performed as expected but im just wondering how Henes does the outdoor season. She gets them right for XC but track is totally different. Does she coach any pros? I know her most recent NC state greats, her daughter Elly and Hannah Steelman both moved to Flagstaff and Mike Smith coaches them. It’s just weird because they did well in Eugene last year as a team so what changed?

Even Tyynismaa who ran well said she wasn't feeling 100%. Hays declined, Chmiel placed well in Indoor championships but hasn't PR'd in the 5k since Dec 2021 and didn't perform great here. Howlett struggled too.
Bush, Tyynismaa had blowups similar to Tuohy in their 1500s this season. Maybe Henes just isn't great coaching the 15 in general?
Steelman is in Flagstaff but with On (not Adidas) but I believe Coach Henes writes her workouts not Mike Smith, unless that has changed.

Like I said, she possibly never learned the lesson of being a gracious loser, because she had to deal with too many added pressures. It wasn't just about the bad race for her. It was the bad race compounded with the overwhelming pressure of everyone talking about it. Dealing with both those things--I can see why she was in tears. I can see why she didn't want to talk to anyone, and it's not fair to expect the same level of sportsmanship from her, when you know she's dealing with so much more.
Does anyone realize the cameras are not on the athletes the whole time once they cross the finish line? Or after they leace the track? You don't know what they do because its mostly off camera, this is your imagination. This judgemental moralizing about post race behavior and calling Tuohy a 'sore loser' is very toxic.
I look forward to reading your posts about how Dylan Jacobs is a 'sore loser' for not congratulating Ky Robinson. And Isai Rodriguez. Can you link to them please?
Well, aren’t you so very helpful today. So if Tuohy runs, it will be the 5k. You knew that too, of course. Just trying to stir the pot, are we? Mmmm hmmm.
Tuohy doesn’t do creatine or “whatever”. It’s the “whatever” that gets people in trouble. Sometimes they get sued, sometimes even banned. Combine that with other illegal “stuff” and they even get indicted.
I do love the smell of fresh trolls in the morning!
One positive outcome from this might be for KT to not rush going pro. I think she would benefit from at least one more XC season in NCAA, maybe track. Rushing things might result in frustration, as she may not be ready to compete with sub-14:40 runners until '24.
I'm happy for Valby, and her achievements with so little running are incredible. But it's hard to be excited about her as a prospect for representing the U.S., because no one can compete with the world's best by mainly cross training.
I don’t think Valby should go pro until she is right physically. The guidance of coaches plays a part, but she ultimately needs to take ownership of her physicality and training. Use any facility resources her college can provide while available.

Gordon commented in the Flotrack podcast today that he saw Tuohy walk up to each of the other athletes after the 1500 (presumably in the cool down area) and congratulate them.

Bagged it after failing decisively in the first half of her ill-advised double. . It is inarguably poor form to incessantly project victory in a race your candidate didn’t run. Go ahead and say you think she might have fared well, but saying she would have won is very disrespectful to those who did run. . I consider that a fairly fundamental tenet of sportsmanship. John Gault said the same thing on the letsrun podcast. "this version of Tuohy probably still would have won the 5k if she was fresh". People are entitled to opinions, even if you don't agree.
