Here's a womens 3k prediction.
We learned a lot yesterday in the 5k and I see a repeat here. The Alabama ladies will lead a slow pace w Tuohy tucked in behind. Touhy will move hard w 1k to go and will have to work harder to shake also McCabe, Gregory, Markezich, Roe and Maatoug.
Oregon St and BYU both have 2 runners, but I'd be shocked now to see new faces at the front.
The pack again has 3 w/Bush in for Seymour. Bush looked sharp in the dmr, she will track Chmiel and have a strong finish.Gregory and Maatoug will be fried from the mile. McCabe, Markezich and Roe will try to hang on to Touhy, but will fail. Chmiel and Bush will move through the carnage.
Result
Touhy in 9:08, McCabe, Bush, Olemomoi, Chmiel, Roe, Chelangat, Markezich.
Actually, it’s the final individual event. They’ll all go all-out. They’ve got a feel for how the altitude affects them as individuals. They’ll run within themselves. They will NOT want it to be tactical, there are too many closers (such as McCabe). I think it’ll be pretty quick from the start. (I agree that Tuohy will go, but I think she liked the 800m gear-ratcheting yesterday and will go similarly tonight).
With all this in mind, as they’ll be going fast, I think they’ll go out in 6:00 for the first 2k. (Not MEGA fast, but it is altitude). Tuohy makes a MASSIVE move with 600m to go.
Tuohy wins in 8:50. 2nd is McCabe in 8:55 with Roe in tow after a hard-fought battle with McCabe in 8:56.
