Illinois High School XC 2022

Looks like Plainfield South does seem to have a good top 5 for next year kinda:
-The big 3 (Maloney-4:24i, Viger-4:24i, Borger-4:27i)
-Fink-9:59 3200 / 16:23 3-mile
-DeAlba-4:40 1600 / 16:30 3-mile

Some guys that could be good at positions 6 and 7-
Maranowicz-10:34 / 16:56 3-mile
Hoffman-4:45/10:36 / 17:40 3-mile
Freshmen that have room for improvement:
Miller-4:55i/ 10:48 / 17:31 3-mile
Cory-4:53i
Schultz-17:50 3-mile

I agree that Plainfield North has a better chance of long term success. They could beat South as early as next year. South has a good core returning next year though, with some JV guys stepping up.
North has a solid freshman class this year.
South doesn’t have as many good underclassmen but they seem to have guys step up from year to year.

Yep. If the season were to end today, DGN would be going into the fall returning 3 under 4:20, 2 more at 4:30 or better. In the 3200, they would be returning 9:22-9:23-9:33 and SIX more Sub-10…

Barrington has a solid crew coming back for XC 2023 and 2024.

That could possibly win 2023. Of course I'm not sure how effective super shoes are in xc, or if they're even designed for anything but track.

I think Downers Grove North will take it in 2023. They made NXN last year and they return 4 varsity guys.

Their 5-7 nonseniors are at:

So Downers Grove North has a better 2,3, and 4. They will just need to close the 4-5 gap and they will have a better 2-5.

End of the season, final results for DGN. Top 4 returners are:

Ryan Eddington - 12 - 9:22/4:07

Caden Weber - 12 - 9:23/4:12

Grant Schroeder - 11 - 9:32/4:19

Zach Bender - 12 - 9:35/4:18

Brady Travers (incoming junior) did not make their top 7 in cross country but ran 9:33/4:28 in track, qualifying for state in the 3200, so it looks like they have a 5th ready to go (and he may even end up fighting for the 3/4). 3 more sub 10 for 3200 (incoming senior, junior, and sophomore) and their top freshman last year did not run the 3200. 13 total returners sub 4:40 for 1600.

Overall, great top end, with Eddington and Weber both having taken substantial jumps this past season (especially Eddington), and both should be among the top runners in the state, as well as amazing depth. Gonna be a battle for those 6/7 spots and could easily see one or more of them breaking out and challenging for 3/4/5.
