I think that Downers Grove will win state this year. They return 4 varsity guys + Travers who ran a 9:33 3200.
Some other teams looking really good are Plainfield North, Barrington, Lyons Township, Arlington Heights, Benet Academy, and O’Fallon.
Plainfield South will still be really good even after graduating most of their squad. They return: Viger- 9:13 - 12 Maloney - 9:14 - 11 Boerger - 9:27 (at Hoka in October 2022) - 12 Fink - 9:50 - 11 DeAlba - 9:55 - 12
Viger, Maloney, and Boerger all have already been on varsity for the last couple of years.
Sounds like they have a decent 4&5 too.
Hinsdale Central will still be good though not as good as last year Bandukwala - 12 - 15:05 5k Lowe - 12 - 15:47 5k / 4:30 1600 Kamenev - 11 - 16:25 5k / 4:36 1600 M Gamboa - 10 - 16:33 5k / 10:04 3200 Revord - 11 - 16:54 5k / 4:38 1600 Kurimay - 12 - 4:37 1600
Will York make it to state this year? They didn’t last year, and they had 5 seniors on varsity. They return: Saltiel - 11 - 9:57 Davies - 12 - 10:14 Bradford - 11 - 10:20 / 15:50 3-mile / 4:39 1600 Sebastian - 11 - 10:26 Zangan - 11 - 10:33 / 15:36 3-mile / 4:31 1600 Kehoe - 11 - 4:36 Tobin - 11 - 4:42 Zangan and Sebastian were the only two in York’s top 7 last year
They do have a very good set-up for 2024, but Barrington does as well.

Not if they get put into the Sectional of Death like last season.
York is actually looking to be better than last year even after only returning 2 guys who ran XC sections. Non-senior track times were better than last year’s. They also return a sub-10 guy who wasn’t on varsity last year. They also have had many people coming out of nowhere

This isn’t to say that York is guaranteed to have a chance to make state

Based on some info I got from a York alumni, the boys seem to have a good setup for this year. A handful of new guys are making their way to the top. They seem to have a lot of guys improving a lot.
