This thread was originally titled, "Incredible development in the $612,000 Transcon Goodge run, currently ongoing" but the new title is more descriptive. The description of the run is here.
It makes him a liar or insanely stupid. Pick one. If you don't, please explain how it can be any other way. As others have said, he had ZERO chance from the start.
I can go out tomorrow and say I'm going to break the 800m world record. I can make it about halfway before I start to fall off pace. That's significantly further, percentage wise, than PJ has come to keeping pace on his WR attempt. Absolutely anyone who has any experience with running would know that I have zero chance at ever breaking that record. That would make me either a liar or very stupid.
Tom Brady says "we are winning this game" and they lose...must be a liar. Fiona O'Keeffe wins the US Olympic trails in her first marathon...must be a fraud.
Come on.
Just because you say you are going to attempt to do something and you don't do it doesn't make you a liar. Just because you haven't done it before doesn't make you a fraud.
- Two teams before the Superbowl saying, "We're gonna win!" = Not really lying or being stupid. They've played a whole season and have very good reason to believe they have a legitimate shot at winning
- A white belt in jiu-jitsu saying he could beat a Gracie in their prime = Lying or stupid<= PJ is here
- Duane Solomon saying he's going to break the world record in the 800m = Kind of stupid but it wasn't out of the realm of possibility and I watched the bated breath
- Me saying I can beat Lewis Hamilton in one lap around Silverstone because I play a lot of Forza = Lying or stupid<= PJ is here

You missed the whole point of his post. This isn't tom Brady saying "we are winning this game", this is Jimmy in the 6xth grade saying the Chiefs actually just drafted him and he is going to win the super bowl with them this year

I genuinely can't tell if recruiter is serious or not. Anyone who has played sports seriously understands this stuff. But thanks to influencers like Goggins, others, and now PJ, there's a big influx of, "You can do anything if you try hard enough!" but it all drastically undersells how hard reality is and that physical limits exist.
Some guy at business I frequented knew I was a decent runner and tried to tell me I should just train REALLY, REALLY hard to go to the Olympics. I was like, "Lol I'm flattered but there's zero chance!" He wouldn't let up. Told me I needed to believe and grind. His buddy heard this and was like, "Leave him alone. He knows what he's doing better than you in his sport, why should you give him advice!?" Turns out the rational buddy was a national class fencer at one point. Told me about how he grinded and grinded, but never came close to international competition. C'est la vie!

For sure, I agree! That is a great example to illustrate it.
This attitude is actually true in some areas, but not in world records. Gritting it out might let you run up a mountain, slowly grind out 100 miles, or make your high school varsity squad. But you cannot run faster than someone who is also gritting it out, when they have dozens of years more and much higher quality training than you.
Maybe you can grind your way through a marathon by sheer determination, but without the actual work you couldn't just will your way to a world record marathon. Which is a similar comparison to what Goodge and Paul are trying to get us to believe they can do but in transcon, where having done the work is even more important than in shorter distances.

Every time one of these yahoos gets called out, their defender(s) appear and paste the same inane nonsense over and over again. 🙄
Hey, my nonsense is original to me and me alone 😁.
I am defending PJ, not because I know him or even if I believed if he could break the record, but because I am so sick and tired of everyone tearing people down. Where is the good in people anymore? On LR, it seems there is only negativity and shaming. I have been able to stay off of it since the WG 'scandal' of last year and my sensibilities have been better for it. I came back with the hopes to find people perhaps questioning PJ but generally supporting him since he is wearing a live tracker (a WG big issue on here), and doesn't seem to have the HR issues that WC believed as the biggest issue with WG's transcon. But, unfortunately there seems to be positivity here whatsoever.
I'm sure someone will say 'just stay off of LR' so we can go about our shaming and conspiracy speaking without anyone questioning us. While I might do so again, it is hard to do with people throwing around words like 'stupid' and 'fraud' and 'fake' when they don't even know the guy.

"Everyone keeps saying bad things about this Hitler guy! But he has stated his goals and they are for the the wellbeing of society at large! People keep pointing out little details, calling him a liar, or saying he's evil. But he wants to change the world, and sometimes it's takes someone a little crazy to do it. I'm sick of all the haters! Let's build each other up!"

Pretty much how you sound lol
That's a bit extreme and vile. You're comparing me trying to see the good in someone to those that were supporting Hilter? Who's the insane one here?

For the record, before I get in trouble for politicizing this, I am not calling you a Nazi supporter. I'm calling you extremely naive and gullible.

Thank you so much for clearing that up... Perhaps think of better examples than Hitler next time.
I am neither naive nor gullible. It isn't gullible to believe in the good in people (or the possibility of good for that matter). It isn't naive to not automatically jump to a belief in fraud just because a runner makes a big statement without a track record to back it up.
I would MUCH rather be a positive person than a negative one. I would much rather believe in good than assume bad. I would rather attempt to shine a little light on hope rather than tear down like many have done on this thread, and as you have tried to do to me.

Hey guys - after being inspired by Paul Johnson's run and failed WR attempt, I am excited to announce I will be attempting to break the transcon WR myself, while fundraising for the Puppies and Kittens Battling Cancer fund. My credentials are low 2:30s marathon PR and did a couple 3hr easy runs at 7:30 pace, which will be my goal pace for this WR attempt.
Please follow me on my social medias, share to all your friends, and all news outlets, and donate as much as you can. After I fail this attempt and present the charity with large donation check (hopefully putting me in national news), I will use my amassed following to generate additional revenue for myself and fuel my narcissistic ego. Looking forward to sharing my journey with you, lets send it!!!!

I choose to see the good in you and wish you much success. I suggest setting a target of 200 miles per day for 15 days. I've done the math and it checks out. Good luck!

Be sure to have the right grindset and to go full send. I cannot stress how important that is. I think you can get through most of Jocko Willink's podcast library on your attempt!
Have a look at the last couple hours of March 15, say points 30,000 thru 37,733 of the raw. I graphed it and it's pretty damning, but interested what you make of it. HR versus pace in particular. Let me know if you're seeing what I'm seeing.
OMG! You see ghosts like I do???
No need to go down that heart rate path again. That's the Cockerell misdirection that wasted the first 120 pages of this thread because he simply doesn't understand how heart rate on watches work and I kept correcting them.
I took a look at the HR vs pace for the March 15th. I know what you are thinking and you are wrong.
I'm just here to say that I think PK running with him for part of a day and bringing his physio out to help could just be PK being a good guy and doing the honorable thing. I don't think it is implicit confirmation that PJ has run every single step of this journey or even that PK is rooting for PJ or even that he necessarily likes him or respects him. PK did right by showing up and offering some help but I don't know that it extends any further than that. It could or it could not but we would need PK to speak on it and tell us one way or another his thoughts on it.
It's worth noting that PK did an earlier post on Insta ripping the piss out of PJ saying he needs to go a lot faster if he wants to break the record, and also predicting that he would fail to beat either of the previous two female record holders.

You're a pollyanna, and you're missing the point. This guy is not evil; he's just another huckster, which is tiresome. And the vehicle for his grift is our sport, whose integrity we will defend. Using the words "positive" and "negative" illuminates nothing about what we're seeing.
When, win or lose, people show the goodness and strength in themselves, we should recognize and support it-- i.e. see the "positive" in the effort rather than focus on the objective result. But there is little or nothing to be "positive" about in someone trying to salvage a failed grift, no matter how much pain and suffering it entails. This sh*t needs to be met with ridicule, to reduce that chances of someone trying to repeat it.

You're just repeating the same old bullsh*t a hundred times that you already repeated 1000 times during the WG run. You seem to be competing with Sneakers to see who can repeat the same pathetic argument the most.
