Just keep in mind that South Africa is far away from any other country with races. That might be the main reason why you don't see many South Africans running 100k's.

There are no 55M world records claimed at Comrades. Only the finish line counts, and that is a different distance up and down, and even sometimes down or up distances are not the same either.

Now lets say the 100km had a cut off, as it should, like the Olympic Games....then he wouyld have to have his skates on, and then if he didn't make cut off and they deny his 50M WR, you guys would probably claim he was robbed

It would be more like somebody breaking the half marathon record while running a full. You still have to finish the race. And in all honesty, if you break a WR, who cares if you walk after. The fact he's walk/running another 12 miles is impressive.

Instead of the two distance approach, which I understand was needed for record purposes, I think Hoka May have got more people interested in this event if they tried it as a Double Marathon.
I could see the promotion: are you a marathoner? Think you could do it twice? 100k is a clean metric figure, but double marathon might be more marketable.
Congrats to all the runners - it was just too hot overall for this length of running.

it's ridiculous that people are upset that Jim went for the intermediate record. And those who don't think he could've broken the 100k record at all, well, I'm sorry you feel that way. Jim aimed for 6:00, not 6:09. He failed. Maybe he could've just run 5:56/mi the whole way and held on, but that's not how he decided to approach it. He knew it was a risk, and he probably didn't expect it to go well, especially once the forecast came in.

Jim failed again. He wanted to run sub 6 hours. Nobody forced him to do that. As we said before. Jim is a great 50 mile racer and now he has the record for 50 miles. Which is great. But he failed at the 100k distance again.
Jim is just not good when shite hits the fan. He doesn't have what is needed to be a good ultrarunner beyond 50 miles.
