Heps Cross Country 2011

New national rankings are out:

Princeton men stay #9, Columbia men move up six spots to 22.

Cornell women drop four spots to #29, Columbia women received the 32d-highest number of votes.

Dartmouth will be Princeton's closest competition but with Princeton's depth and incoming freshman class they will be hard to beat.

Interesting that only Cabral scored for PU this weekend. Leung had an off day. Spear and Kaulbach are not on the team this year. Arroyo gamin was 6th man.

What a dumb comment on so many levels: 1) First of all, it is off-topic. 2) Second of all, my guess is the NCAA has more pressing oversight duties than policing whether a school is engaging in the heinous rule violation of paying for "athlete" transport under the guise of fan buses. For starters, did someone forget to tell you about the staggering deficiencies by the NCAA in policing the recruiting practices of Div. I football and basketball? 3) Thirdly, the supposition that an athlete accepting a "free" bus ride to an athletic event constitutes a breech of NCAA rules is laughable.

Columbia should be commended on herculean efforts by both Kyle Merbers and newcomer Waverly Neer, whose performance will go down in ivy league lore as one of the gutsiest by a freshman woman in HEPS history.

If the buses got more fans, or athletes for that matter, to Princeton, more power to them. They had a HEPS experience for the ages, both because of the unprecedented weather conditions, and the achievements of their runners.

My guess is Columbia will be emboldened to take a run at first place in cross country HEPS next year, both men and women.

The Merber triplets have been pullinbg the wool over everybodies eyes for years. One triplet does nothing but study thus the Columbia entry and high marks. The second does nothing but train for track up to 125 miles a week usually tempo triples 8am 2pm and 8pm thus the sub 4 and the third is the social bon vivant and internet whore we all know and love.

So, the meet's at Buffalo. Who'll be making the trek?

Will Cornell be laying on any buses for spectators?

Congratulations and good luck to the Ivy automatic qualifiers, and best of luck to the "bubble" teams. I confess that I don't know how the at-large system works, but I certainly hope my Big Red women make it--great race today!

Congrats to Princeton men, Columbia men, Dan Lowry, Ethan Shaw, Abbey D'Agostino, Alex Banfich, Alexis Mikaelian, and Waverly Neer on making the big race on 11/21! Also extra congrats on Donn Cabral and Abbey for winning their respective regional individual titles!

Also, alumni Claire Richardson (Georgetown), Mark Amirault (UVA), and Adrien Dannemiller (Indiana) also qualified as graduate students.

Any thoughts on how teams or individuals will do? It's only a week away...

I wish the best to all the Ivy (and former Ivy) entrants--go Dannemiller!

Now that my personal "rooting interest" has finished the cross season, I--in all my various monikers--will a hiatus make (at least from LRC--I'm sure I'll still check Hepstrack.com). Best wishes to all for the holidays--see you in 2012.

Harvard men 15th in the Northeast??? What is Saretsky doing with that team? They started out the season with sooo much potential. Looks like they did a great job of blowing themselves up...

As for the Harvard men... I have no idea what is going on, but you're not the only one wondering. Other people have noticed trends in how there are always a large number of injuries on their squad in XC. It's a long running year, I can only hope they can get things together for indoors.

I can tell you that a lot of people here in AZ are wondering what is going on. They recruited our 1600 and 3200 meter state record holder, 2 time Foot Locker finalist who I watched run since junior high - as far as I know, he never missed a meet here. He now is unheard from in 2 months, along with several teammates. I'd really like to know what is going on with that program. This is really sad for those of us who were huge fans of this bright, extremely talented runner.

Any one with an insider's perspective - what is going on there? Harvard has more than just fallen a part. They have so many very accomplished HS runners there and they have nothing to show for it. Is Saretsky really that bad?
