Interesting thread. Maybe instead of lamenting the lack of funding for athletes, the anger should be directed towards areas of waste like that mentioned above. The CF paid for back-of-the-pack runners to travel to these meets and paid them for their time there? This is just the tip of the iceber with the CF. Waste is rampant. Taxpayers should be furious. Those funds would be much better spent on our real athletes. Where's the uproar?

I know that all the contributors to this thread care about Canadian distance running, past, present and future, and although we may have differing perspectives, there is no excuse for being personal or rude about it. I know it's a chat-line, and shit happens ---- been there, done that, but this is a vitally important topic (not just to me, but to many others), and it would be great to try and keep the discussion at a civil level... That was my first post. Seriously the CF is rampant with waste. And not just the monies wasted on a military xc championship. Ask anyone on the inside. Why can't we hold them to a more fiscally responsible standard and take some of those excess monies and funnel them to more worthwhile areas like athletics?
