Nothing surprises me in the 1500 anymore. Too many up and coming talents in the US and world, no one is ever safe. I do feel bad for Nuguse leading and getting outkicked, guess he needs a new tactic.
The Red Sea parted for Hocker in Paris allowing him to win. He runs now like it is going to happen every time for him. He needs to put himself in a better position going into the last lap, and especially entering the final turn, instead of waiting for everyone to move out of his way.
I know this seems very much in the moment but for Nuguse it just seems like yet another coaching/peaking blunder. You can't question his tactics/execution there because he is good enough to make the top 3 running that way. But the warning signs were at Pre and that is clearly a disaster for him today. I just think of all these killer workouts we've seen being posted since April/May and the volume of racing he and Hocker have done (touch on him in a second) - it just caught up in a hurry and running 3.32 (probably unnecessarily) in the heats didn't help.
Hocker? had the benefit of not leading today and that saved him. Plus he has a little more wiggle room with that kind of bustling strength he has. Like us all I'm still stunned Nuguse couldn't get that done but some big questions to be asked of Ritzenhein, again.
Yared straight-up Jakob'd it. I was yelling at Hobbs to get past him going into the last lap, when the field was clearly getting back into it, but he just stuck to the plan and they both got swallowed alive.

Dude. They were born female at birth, and they still compete in the women's division. No issue there. Maybe instead complain about all the EPO users and age cheats ruining the sport.
I'm not the biggest Hiltz fan either but people are getting mad at them over nothing
Well, unless she's taking male hormones that aid performance.
As we’ve seen with Jacob, it’s really hard to lead the whole way. Looks like the US is too competitive now for even someone as good as Nuguse to get away with it.
I’m sure Nuguse will run some more Diamond League races so he can get into the final and have a shot that way. I hope Koch runs the DL final too, the way he’s running he could win and unlock a 4th spot.
I believe based off of that 1500 final, we’re gonna see a lot of jog fests in the next few years. The fast guys in America are no longer far and above everyone else, they can’t afford to gamble their spot by leading the whole way. Save those time trials for the diamond league and any race Jakob is in, rely on your tactics domestically.
Nuguse just didn't have it. To me 58 for 2nd 400 was telling.
I wish he and Jingy would leave it for the first 700 and just power the last 800 home like El G did in Athens. It’s the only way that works in championship races. Leading the whole race costs you 1-2s at least, as showed today
This 1500m US final is about as close to a world championship/Dl final level. There is just so much pressure to make this team. I would argue making the world championship final is easier than making the US team.
Kessler needs to leave Very Nice Track Club and train with Smith full time. he's got no gears, just one speed. fast and then a slow deceleration. Smith has taught Nico, Luis, and Abdi gears - and look at Maggi Condons progression this year. same thing, she can shift to whatever pace a race calls for. if Kessler had gears he'd be much more dangerous. watching him finish like that is just ridiculous for a guy that talented.

And Nuguse just isn't on Jakob's level. Jakob front-ran a 3:28.2. No one is capable to do that except him.

I dunno about that. It's not the only time he's been well served by being patient and waiting for the inside to open up.
