CONFIRMED - Brosnan committed multiple NCAA violations at UCLA

Tampering is stupid and honestly, the NCAA has lost all real power at this point. They’re just grasping at straws to make themselves feel important. Coaches are straight-up paying athletes to transfer now, so if a player wants to move on, who cares? If you can’t keep them happy, do you really want them anyway? This whole Brosnan situation is even more ridiculous. The guy had athletes who wanted to run for him—he didn’t “tamper” or force anyone to transfer. It’s embarrassing how childish the NCAA is, treating everything like a 4th grade classroom where the teacher is wrong but refuses to admit it. The NCAA royally messed this whole thing up.

The report clearly states it was Brosnan’s private phone, and I know how this works. The state or UCLA has no right to access his phone without a court order—something UCLA would never get. Even if the school had issued the phone, which they didn’t, they wouldn’t have the right to view personal content. But that’s not even the case here since it was Brosnan’s own private device. Plus, even with a court order, you can’t just take everything off someone’s phone—that’s not how it works. Brosnan appears to have nothing to hide and even volunteered his work-related texts and phone info. The real issue with the NCAA is that they took everything from his private phone and shared all 8000 files of private and personal info with UCLA and others without any permission. Brosnan demanded the metadata from the NCAA to find out what they looked at and who looked at what, which is completely reasonable and his legal right. By in doing this the NCAA didn’t want to give him this because they knew the legal consequences. That’s why the NCAA was forced to admit their mistake and retract the information. But damage, however, was already done—they violated multiple state and federal privacy laws and honestly deserve to be held accountable. This was the reason Brosnan asked for that metadata and the NCAA denied it and caused a delay in Brosnan’s interview as they hit a wall in a situation the NCAA is 100% wrong about. This whole situation seriously jeopardizes the NCAA’s credibility.

The NCAA is saying Brosnan had a pre-existing relationship with those two guys whose daughters went to another. It’s been confirmed and established that Brosnan had a relationship with them well prior to UCLA. The NCAA claims no recruiting talk happened, but they’re trying to stop even from even talking to these friends about regular life stuff, which is definitely against their own bylaws. Bottom line, the NCAA can’t have a bylaw that overrides actual state laws. This situation puts them in serious hot water because it breaks state laws and falls under antitrust violations, which could hurt them badly.

I won’t get into all the legal fine print but I imagine that the NCAA followed the standard processes they do for all investigations. If not good luck to SB suing them. They are losing a lot of cases.

With the Wild West lack of rules it is shocking a coach would get caught and punished. So many work arounds available. It is soooo easy to cheat if you do it right.

Having worked with the NCAA from the outside for years, I can say they clearly did not follow their own protocols or procedures here, especially regarding phone imaging. The coach is supposed to review the phone before the NCAA gets access—that's the only legal way. Instead, the NCAA took everything without the legal right, assuming they’d find something. After multiple people went through all the files and found nothing, that’s when the NCAA started freaking out because Brosnan hired top-tier lawyers, which was a smart move. The NCAA had to retract the files, but as others have pointed out, it’s too late. Now they’re acting like it’s no big deal, but it seriously is. What they did was against the law, and after all that, they found absolutely nothing. Again, this was why Brosnan demanded the metadata. He needed to do that to follow the proper steps to a lawsuit in which the NCAA will have to settle because they know the messed up.
The other bylaw they are trying to hold Brosnan to regarding the phone calls is also a losing court battle for the NCAA. NCAA Bylaws cant be above federal law and again another reason Brosnan ponied up with a big time lawyer.

Brosnan didn't do anything that every coach in America isn't currently doing. You think athletes don't try feeling out potential new coaches before they enter the portal?

It's silly how much of a h@rd-on a couple trolls in this group have for him. That's why posts get deleted. Someone has a clear agenda to try to destroy one guy's career. Brosnan clearly pissed a couple people off, but those people need to move the eff on with life and quit trashing the guy or complaining about some of the hate being censored out while the haters hide behind fake screen names.

Go FOI Brosnan's phone right now. Or better yet, have the journalist at Letsrun do it. I'll beat you a lot of $$, they'll get e-mail and info related to this case available to the public.

Why? Because he was conducting public business on his phone. If he had a completely separate phone that he NEVER did any business on, they couldn't touch that. But he didn't.

It's why there is the note in the report you are incorrectly citing that says: "During his time at UCLA, Brosnan had one cell phone, which he used for business purposes—including recruiting—as well as personal use. He owned the phone, but UCLA paid for his cell service"

Following her entry in the transfer portal January 2, 2023, prospect 2 enrolled at UCLA and competed for the institution.

Prospect 1 entered the transfer portal on December 12, 2022, and prospect 2 entered on January 2, 2023. Two of Brosnan’s 11 phone calls with prospect 1’s father occurred at 10:25 p.m. and 11:07 p.m. on December 11, 2022, the night before prospect 1 entered the portal. Prospect 1’s father initiated both calls. Brosnan then initiated a phone call to prospect 1’s father the following day. The call concluded 13 minutes before prospect 1 entered the portal. Prospect 1’s father then called Brosnan three minutes after prospect 1 entered the portal.
