You guys sure spend a lot of time talking about a coach who's peak salary is likely the same as the average starting salary of an Olaf graduate.

Apparently, he canceled some inappropriate traditions and some of the creepy/students are upset. I’ve heard from some alumni friends some ‘panty raid’ type of traditions were ended and most alums are like, I can’t believe we weren’t ‘cancelled’ for that years ago. A vocal minority want the traditions to continue.

How does the Wartburg course compare to Eau Claire? Gusties beating Olaf might take a miracle, but it looks very possible on paper. Will a month between races be enough for Carleton to emerge from the ashes? The battle for second and not last will be intense.

Is this the worst the MIAC has been on a national scale in years? Only a handful of guys have even run sub 26:00 in super shoes. Is it poor recruiting, poor coaching, or too many bubs?

And he’s decreased the roster size with inflated recruiting standard which alumni dislike. Three of the Gustie scorers are guys he told weren’t fast enough for him. Now they are running faster than all but his top 4-5 guys which obviously other teams dislike.

We must talk to different alumni. Many are upset about his treatment of athletes and lack of respect for the history of the program. Phil gift wrapped a dynasty for him and he’s shown himself to be an embarrassment to the program despite a modicum of success. The alumni wanted the Edina coach to take over and the current Admin has plans to promote the assistant who has a lot of head coaching experience and the AD really likes to head track coach and the women’s coach will become the head XC coach. She’s an alum and has had tons of her own success. The team will be upset at first, but the school just wants to save money even if his salary is a small drop in the bucket of the Ole fortune.

Any MIAC alumni racing tomorrow? We’ll be cheering for any that run by us, even the Tommies! Free Hamm’s to any needing a pick me up late in the race!

Any coach in the MIAC could have success at a school with so many resources as St. Olaf. I have much more respect for coaches who do much with little and not high powered recruits or fancy facilities.

Who is racing the cow pasture in Waseca this weekend? Can Mo lap scorers from every team?

Isn’t it a 4K? I don’t think even Mo can all anyone in a 2K loop. Why would he not go race better comp though?

Does anyone know where Torte is? There has been no sighting this year. Not even on the roster for this last weekend...

Carls didn't race and instead did some sort of AnT-time trial hybrid on a Monday. Ricks may be a mad man, but his methods are time-tested. Smart of him to make them run 5 miles instead of an 8K. Now the 8K will feel shorter and easier.

If rumors are to be believed Indy & Gabe may challenge Turkington and at least of of their freshmen is a top ten MIAC placer already. No word on Roy's performance. If he's healthy and one of the Torte, Brown, Jamison trio can run under 26:20, they enter an already crowded battle to top the Oles and one of those three will definitely be expected to edge the Mac scorers.

After looking at results from Friday, I'm wondering if the Johnnies stole a page from the Gusties and tempoed? Stencel ran well, but several of their scorers ran a minute slower than last year. Still no St. Peter. Maybe he's joining Iggy in his redshirt season.

Talked to him at a meet earlier in the year when he was off and said he was dealing with something, end of the summer didn't go quite right for him. Strava seems to show this.
His braids brother from Bethel, Dallas also has had a noticeably quieter Strava presence this year, and has vastly underwhelmed in races so far.

Torte was a pretty accomplished nordic skier in high school. Carleton’s club ski team has been getting better recently, and last year I think the women’s team qualified to nationals. I haven’t talked to Torte, but given an underwhelming cross year, they might be taking a break from cross to qualify the men’s team to club skiing nationals. Also I think their girlfriend is Carleton’s star skier which may have something to do with it.

Interesting rankings from Flotrack. Carleton women 19th and Ole men 8th. Bati is 3rd male with Turkington 9th. Nobody appears to have told them Iggy is redshirting as he's still top 50. Preisser is also 3rd with the super frosh Vukovis a mind-boggling 41st. Walda of Olaf enters the rankings at 40th and Molly Liston is 42nd!

So they ran the same distance as the Ole course? I fail to follow your logic here. That won’t make any difference in training and if the Carls need that boost in psychology, they need more help than Dave can give them.

This post does make me think the battle for top freshman between the Mac and Carleton frosh will be interesting. That is definitely exciting for the future of both programs.

If the Ole/Carl courses are so great, why does Strava show both teams working out on roads near pig farms? Not sure how that in any way prepares them for the hills or turns of Highland Park or Eau Claire.
