Seems kinda crazy to fly from Illinois to California to run an 800 you win by 5 seconds because you’re clearly the class of the field, in 55 degree weather.
Too bad Ince doesn't have any other HSer who can really push her, even nationally.
But I guess the last few years with Willis, Whittaker, Gorriaran etc. was itself an anomaly.
Yes, the last few years was unusually good in the girls 800. But now it has flipped the other way and is worse than usual.
Besides Ince and Engelhardt, there will be very few girls who will be able to break 2:06 this year. Maybe the Humphries twins have a shot?
Best Sophomore in the country Lily Alder (Utah) took it to Ritz.
Leachman ran a 4:40.7 mile as the second mile of her indoor Nike 2 mile race. So Alder probably isn't the best sophomore in the mile, at least not yet. But Alder is improving rapidly so it will be interesting to see how fast she can run at the June national meets.
Did anybody in either of those 2 races run a PB? Typical Arcadia mile races for some reason. Sit and kick and don't come close to a PB.
Hope fully the Invitational Mile is different, but that is it's history as well.
The Boys Invitational Mile was very different. I haven't seen a top level mile in HS, college or pro's where the top 3 finishers had the last lap as their SLOWEST of the entire race, because they went out hard, kept running hard, and were running on fumes at the end. This resulted in a classic ending as well.
Great race. So glad to be wrong on this prediction.
The 800 leg for Newport Harbor was insane though. She outkicked everyone and put the team in good position
She’s a sophomore and it looks like it’s the first time she ever ran the 800. Her split was 2:12. She’s actually a 5’5” high jumper and a good hurdler. Top 10 in California in both. And it looks like a good soccer player. She plays for a team in ECNL- the highest club competition. Basically the show case league for college.
She’s the type of runner that seems to have unlimited potential.
Similar to Lindsey Butler in high school. Hopefully she keeps that improvement curve up and runs the 800 a bit more.
I was impressed with Simmons in the last 100. I was convinced someone was gonna get the best of him in the last lap but he found a gear and then another.
4:13.42 last 1600
2:01.47 last 800
57.52 last 400
Nathan Neil: 57.1/2:00.3/3:05.5/4:10.3 in his mad dash behind Simmons. A more impressive chase.
Terrible environment at Arcadia tonight. Been going for years and it seems fake and forced. What happened to the meet. Very disappointing
What does it mean for a track meet's environment to be "fake" and "forced"? I haven't the slightest idea. At least you didn't accuse the competitions of being fixed!
You spoke too soon. In the other threads, people are starting to get suspicious that times are so fast.

Man, I almost forgot about that Kessler 2-mile. Too bad he didn't take a serious shot at any other records. I'm convinced he could have broken the 2 mile record and gotten close in the 5k and 800 records. (and 1 mile, obviously)
Would be really cool to see his footage for arcadia.
"These night videos show how good my cameras can film at night. Imagine breaking various records at Arcadia only to have them captured in grainy, noisy, blurry iphone 3 (720p) quality!
We don't live in the 720p years anymore (that was the late 90s for those of you who weren't born yet); we're in the 3840p era.
So Coaches and Athletes, if you have any pull with Coach Gonzalez, ask him to let me put at least two of these cameras (I have 4) for the Arcadia Invite."
