Official Idaho 2024 Track Thread

I think the weather was probably pretty tricky yesterday at U of O. 75 at start time for the 3200’s- probably 85 on the track.

Ringert has run 9:48 twice in Idaho. I doubt those are trying hard, probably essentially workouts. Lucas didn’t run super fast, but at least ran within 20 seconds of what he ran at Arcadia. Kemper and Sheesley ran 9:32 but went through the 1600 in something like 4:55. I do think we have a lot of boys that are running 3200’s in Idaho for specific reasons and trying to do specific things in those that are pretty far removed from racing hard. It’s just kind of the reality of where we are at with the semi-elite and elite guys.

CDA dropped their #3 returner to 4:19 today. Reitze dropped his time to 4:26. So 4:14, 4:14, 4:19, 4:26, 4:38, 4:38, with the Cervi-Skinner brothers yet to go today. 4:22 average. Anyone who thought that this was going to be close next year was kidding themselves.

Their top 5 3200 returners are 9:01, 9:17, 9:18, 9:52, 9:53. I'm guessing that when Reitze runs his next 3200 it will drop into the 9:30's. They already return an average at 9:28. There's a good chance they end up returning a 9:20-9:23 average.

Rocky is 9:12 (more there), 9:34, 9:55, 9:57, 9:58. Rocky's average is 9:43. Even if you use Tuft's lifetime best from the Hoka race, they average 9:41.

CDA is pretty much a shoe-in to make NXN again. If they get a 5th runner to step up, they will place very highly there.

Crater returns 5 sub-10 guys (2 of them are freshmen and 2 of them are juniors who could be top 10 at NXN next year). They also return Headley who scored for them at NXR.

Jesuit returns 7 studs although they may not have the best front runner.

This will likely keep Rocky out of NXN for another year

Congrats to Nate Stadtlander as the Oregon Relays 1 mile champ. It’s interesting as I saw the North Boise Classic 1600 with (Kemper, Stadt, Helder, Lucas, Sheesley) and I can see the splits of Pasco with (Heemeyer, Zach CS, Max CS, Lucas) and now the Oregon Relays Splits with (Stadt, Kemper, Max CS, Zach CS)…

Going to be a very fun State 1600m at 5A.

Now that those three races are done and we see how each guy likes to run it - it’s going to be a very strategic race - Ringert and others will also be there of course…I know who I would bet on

I’m still not sure who won the mile at the Oregon Relays- is it possible for someone to win from an Open heat by posting a faster time than the “champion heat?”
In any case, the Idaho distance boys made us proud with the top three mile times. 💪

Ringert also went 4:14.88 for 1600m at Oregon Relays.

Looks like we haven't quite gotten to where we were last year let, but we are getting very close in the 800 for both genders, the 1600 for boys, and the 3200 for boys.

These next couple weeks are going to be fun!

There’s still a month left in the season and it’s now into where all the faster kids are racing each other. The top 10-15 are insane in each event right now and those are the ones that have the seed times to get into good heats at big invites. The next group will get dragged to good times here soon.

Last year 6 boys sub 4:15. Already 10 this year.

If you give altitude adjustments, last year there were 9 sub 9:20. This year there are already 13, and I’m sure Kemper could if he wanted, but he’s so good at the 400/800 I kind of doubt he goes for a fast 3200 at this point.

I was looking at athletic.net and noticed something interesting...

The Cervi-Skinner brothers are 18 as juniors as is Cody Lucas. Heemeyer was in his age 18 season as a junior. Wyatt Carr is in his age 16 season as a freshman.

Helder, Kemper, and Ringert were in their age 17 season as juniors, and age 18 as seniors. It looks like Heemeyer should turn 19 this track season. Stadtlander, Sheesley, and Ihmels are in their age 17 seasons as juniors now.

Comparing what Stadtlander, Sheesley, and Ihmels are doing this year is like comparing to Heemeyer, Lucas, and the CS brothers as sophomores, and Helder, Kemper, and Ringert last year to those guys sophomore years. Carr should be compared to a year up.

Meanwhile Franklin / SE Portland somehow finds new kids and continues to develop kids with modest frosh times into something competitive...but yeah NW is going to be deep again in fall.

A lot of time between now and XC season including a summer of training…

these ages are not accurate and your post is not logical if you are not actually aware of ages

Most kids don’t put their age on athletic . Net as I am sure you are off

Assuming that Cole and Carson Reed are twins, they were both 18 last spring as well. Two of Rocky’s top freshmen are already 16.

Marcus Heemeyer (Landon’s older brother) was also a 16 year old freshman.

Pretty sure that if you claim your profile, it gives you the option to put in your age. Why would these kids lie about their ages?

there are zero 19 year olds running track in Idaho - anyways I just think this whole age thread doesn’t make any sense as it’s not accurate

it’s possible someone born in 2005 is listed as 19 on athletic.net due to the site built in logic.

but they could be December 2005, November 2005 etc which does not make them 19 year old in track

You are almost certainly wrong about the first part. The majority (not all) of kids held back a year will be 19 already. It happens.

But I don’t think you can rely on athletic.net for ages. We’d need a lot more information about how they determine what age to throw up there.

Who wins a hypothetical 1600 where the first two laps are both 62-63, so not a tactical sit and kick? Here are their best marks this season.

Heemeyer - 4:10.56 plus the top 3200

Stockett - 4:11.42

Stadtlander - 4:12.47 plus big Oregon relays win in a kicker’s heat.
