Initially, this thread was entitled "UCLA track coach, Sean Brosnan, Fired for NCAA violations" but we changed it as Brosnan told us he was simply not renewed for next year.
His political views have been well known for the entire time since newbury park started killing it up until now. He was active and vocal about them on social media. It doesn’t matter what was deleted. There are numerous threads on this forum dating back years that documented them.
Cush, you seem to have missed the post(s) that said that Brosnan had contacted the transferred athletes prior to them being in the portal, either directly or via his wife. There was one a few pages ago that is purportedly from a mid-major coach. These would be violations, full stop. Of course, these are anonymous posts and these rumors are not verified (though they're rampant), but not everyone is saying that immediate announcements after entering the portal are smoking guns (which they're not).
i did not miss them at all. my post was meant to distinguish myself from them, hence the fact/educated guess/opinion/hunch qualifiers. i could post a bunch of rumors to fit in better if you'd like ;) ...
I don’t know. There was a since deleted post by someone who claimed to be on the UCLA team who said that Brosnan was a big Trump supporter. I don’t know.
The inference was the politics in the UCLA athletic department. But it's also true that Brosnan is a right-winger and tweeted a bunch of anti-vaccine, pro-Trump, and anti-Newsom (Calif gov) stuff during the pandemic. Think he deleted some or all of it. But if Brosnan's personal politics were an issue, UCLA wouldn't have hired him in the first place.
They were talking about playing office politics such as being polite, finding compromise in disagreements, being able to take no for an answer without throwing a fit.
It sounds like he just gave everyone constant headaches. It's not hard to imagine him yelling at the AD or treating compliance poorly if he's not getting his way.
Apparently his contract was not renewed he specifically said there was no ncaa violation and it was just that a higher up at ucla did not like how he coached
My cowardly and anonymous reading of the situation:
Athletes transferred to UCLA from other schools, some may have jumped the gun by talking about their destination before entering the portal. That could be construed by other coaches as tampering and they filed complaints with NCAA.
UCLA got spooked. With their move to the BIG 10 next year, they probably didn't want any whiff of impropriety following them to the new conference. There might not be enough evidence of a punishable violation, but not renewing an assistant coach is an expedient way to get rid of a potential problem.
Brosnan will probably land somewhere very soon. I wouldn't be surprised if Nike tabs him to takeover Union Athletics after the current terrible season and after most of their top tier talent left. His brashness and ego is better suited to professional track, IMHO.
Sean won't starve. He'll be fine. I feel sorry for the Bruin athletes as their world got rocked right before the season started.
Interesting thought about him being better suited for Pro athletics and that was my initial thought as well but then I remembered that most of the top kids he coached in high school didn't want work with him in college. My experience with Pro athletes is they don't like the coach being or making themselves a big part of the story (or even a bigger story) when they have success and Sean has shown he is likely to try and do that. I think there would be serious ego clashes if he coached a pro team.
Coaching is a hard, hard way to make a living. Self promotion is seriously frowned upon and there is little to no barrier to entry to throw your hat in the ring. There is also little to no serious money in it. Love of the sport and other serious income sources is the only way to stay around for long.

fine, but then your very long post overlooked what is the only truly damning issue (if true). Sort of pointless to talk about Brosnan's firing without addressing what is essentially the elephant in the room.

No proof?
Ah yes, the irrefutable "he deleted tho".
You guys take hating a guy for his coaching arrogance and extrapolate that to hate him in all kinds of creative ways. What's next? Animal abuser?
Settle down, Sparky. No one is saying he was fired for his personal politics. And, yes, a lot of his political tweets (if not all of them) from 2020-21 are still up if you care to look. I just did.

326 posts so far and the elephant is still in the room? Can we please get animal control in here?
Amaris’ dad graduated from NC State and she has a lot of family up there. Makes sense to me why she went there!
Your argument doesn't hold water: Despite her father's attendance at NC State, she originally chose Alabama. Why didn't she go there in the first place if she wanted to attend her father's alma mater?
I couldn't care less why Tyynismaa transferred. It is not the point of this thread. But someone stated that Barnett, Frias, and McDonnell wanted to go far away from home for college and therefore they couldn't have wanted to return home to UCLA by their own volition. Well, it appears that Tyynismaa wanted to stay close to home for college (Alabama) so therefore she must not have wanted to go far away to NC State on her own.
People change their minds and it is not unusual for an 18-yo who goes 2,000+ miles away from home for college to feel homesick. What may have sounded like an adventure may not be all it's cracked up to be. In this day where a simple text message can connect athletes/friends from 500 miles away, it is not hard to imagine the three of them making this decision without outside interference.
I've heard that he has very little empathy while coaching and can kind of be a jerk during workouts. This was from a female college athlete of his so take that for what you will. So maybe he'd be better working with more experienced athletes who likely have tougher skin/don't care as much.

i'm not sure i understand. i'd like to think it's only "truly damning" if found to be true, not parenthetically if true, so your turn of phrase there is strange. but even if the rumors ended up being true, i'm not sure these are "truly damning" offenses, but that's above my pay grade; perhaps in some spiritual tome recruiting violations has its own level of hell. my belief: if i can't refute rumors, nor can i prove them, why should i address them, especially when they've been addressed ad nauseam? i'm happy to admit i don't even have any inside information regarding any of them. they're only the "elephant in the room" because people are screaming them more loudly, and everyone likes a good scandal. for my part, i'd rather have a very long post ;).
when a d1 coach publicly accuses brosnan, and/or when the ncaa officially finds proof of violations, i'll reevaluate, and maybe even change my opinions (though my facts should still stand), but i generally try not to let anonymous posters affect my opinions...

I hear you Cushy but an anonymous poster broke this story.
Youngs must be happy that they didn't sign with UCLA.
Worth considering that none of his super-team on the boys side wanted to run for him in college. Great academic school, close to home, and conceivable that if they went there they could dethrone the west coast dynasties of NAU, Stanford, etc. and establish their own legacies. Instead, they chose to join those other schools. Again, very much worth noting.

It might be worth noting but it has been noted multiple times in this thread.
