Without you and your art history degree with world would be just fine.
Well you don't seem 'just fine.' You seem completely unhinged.
Maybe shoulda took a few art classes.
He’s just wrong too. We’d be just fine without farm subsidy. More expensive food would be good US markets. Also any moron can grow food in their backyard. Don’t need a college degree for thst.
And we paid off our college debt- I never cried about it nor asked the government for help. My college was paid off by ME and I fulfilled my obligation as a responsible adult.
Aren’t you special.
My $300k in my kid’s college debt was paid off by ME and I fulfilled my obligation as a responsible adult and I’m delighted that others will find some relief from the onerous terms (e.g. negative amortization) and usurious interest rates (7.9% in a 0% interest rate environment) levied by this college funding SCAM because I’m not a self-centered self-righteous dickwad.
Wouldn't it make more sense to stop the scam before we start throwing money at the symptoms of the scam?
Note too Biden's actions only impact public loans and not private ones, and doesn't include Parent Plus either.
Incorrect — It does indeed include Parent Plus loans. Huge amounts of college debt are held by parents.
92% of student debt is from federal loans. You can only get a loan you have no hope of ever paying back if the government guarantees it. This is exactly why tuition costs went through the roof.

Exactly. We have to make sure your kids don’t feel like they have to go to college. We must drive demand down. ASAP.

Debt relief is effectively a reduction in the interest rate paid by current borrows. NBD. The government and the private servicers have made out like bandits for decades fleecing the public.
1) All loans should be amortizing m. I hope that’s included in the package. 2) Payment is being reduced from 10% to 5% of income. 3) Get the private services (rent seeking middlemen) out of the business.
Those three things alone would be big steps toward solving the problem.
Classical liberal retorts. You must be so angry, you're insufferable, blah blah, coming from the whiners who just weaseled their way out of paying back their creditors. Tut tut.

92% of student loan debt is from federal loans. Private lenders aren't fleecing the students the SCHOOLS are.
How does leaving the predatory lending in place and simply reducing the size of the victims' payments help the problem?
You've clearly got no idea what you're talking about.
You are right, he should have cancelled all of the student debt for everyone.
These colleges are just a big scam at this point.
Do you people really believe this? The college education system is a completely broken system and a scam and you think the solution is to give it to everyone for free?
This is the equivalent of people who think the way to fix ridiculous income inequality where single people have more wealth than an entire country is to "raise taxes on the wealthy"...unreal
Please explain why those who currently have student loan debt are to be treated as a special class entitled to government largesse. Are they handicapped? Are they oppressed? Why the special treatment? Please answer this and I am listening.
Because it is an investment in the people that were told by adults that they had to go to college to get a job, were preyed upon by loan companies, graduated into the housing crisis/recession/Covid, yet are supposed to be the future of the economy.

Wrong. They were not preyed upon by loan companies. They were preyed upon by the SCHOOLS. 92% of the debt is from federal loans.
You can’t have 1) Everyone want/feel obliged to go to college (high demand) 2) college be cheap (low costs).
Basic economics. We need fewer kids to want to go to college.
If you knew anything about basic economics you'd have heard of supply.
There's a very high demand for oxygen. Everyone wants it. By your 3rd grade understanding of economics oxygen should be the most expensive thing on the planet.
Anyone that wants to go to college can go to college. There is no shortage of openings.

I agree, most on here went to college and look at the idiocy displayed.
In Germany college is free if you test high enough to attend. If you can't you can still go but you have to pay. This is a great idea but would never fly in America because of the stupid people lobby in DC.

You can’t change the supply of colleges easily. We already have more colleges per capita than anywhere else on the planet. Class sizes are always expanding but we can just magically double supply.
Oh… you think federal loans increase supply. No they subsidize demand…
Maybe you need an economics class too!
Im just saying any “adult” that complains about college costs must begin by volunteering that their offspring don’t go to college. Everything else is purely self serving.
On Wednesday, leftist Harvard Law professor Laurence Tribe celebrated President Biden’s plan to cancel student loan debt, catalyzing an avalanche of harsh criticism on social media. Tribe lauded Biden’s plan to cancel up to $...

Who do you know that wanted to go to school and couldn't because there was no room??
The prohibitive variable is COST not supply. You're ignorant.
I certainly hope you're being a good liberal and aborting any clump of cells that infect the womb of anything that's willing to lay still for you. The world is overpopulated and it's important you demonstrate your virtue by doing your part.

So, now that we have transferred their ill-advised debt to the taxpayers, we will stop encouraging people to go to college to get a job and will ban loan companies from making predatory loans to gullible students, right?
