I think a lot of people put his videos on as background noise while they're drinking coffee and lacing up for their morning runs. They don't pay enough attention to realize how bad it's gotten.
There are people who don't regularly watch, but tune in for shoe reviews because that's big business these days.
There's the DGR diehards that actually watch and are emotionally invested in the channel. With the declining quality of his content, and the same tired formula day after day, somehow they still find him inspiring and life changing. I always think of how there is so much bad programming on cable tv, because there are millions lowest common denominator idiots that eat that stuff up. That's what I think of when I think of the core of DGR. They're the ones who are decked out in $500 worth of gear, camelbaks and all, at the 5K turkey trot, finishing in just under an hour. Of course Seth seems like a running god compared to that.
Then there are those of us who have seen enough to realize he's a loose cannon who has no idea what he's doing. But then we still tune in anyway to hate-watch and then vent about it here lmao.
But there's still people who are rational and will get there eventually, and they'll tune out too. They just need more time to realize what Seth is.
Ultimately, he's gonna have to do something with his channel. I think the current formula isn't sustainable. His numbers are going down, and he's just posting the same lazy garbage every day. His biggest videos are his shoe reviews (which honestly are not helpful at all), and when he builds up for a race and documents it. I feel like this run up to Pike's Peak is going to be an eye opener though. He's dropped the ball on his last few marathon attempts, so now he's going back to his bread and butter. However, this time there are actual elites showing up to Pike's Peak. And he's been talking big talk about facing the best competition. So he's got two choices: either he does the Ascent and gets beat down by actual talent, showing that he's not this supreme elite that DGR thinks he is. Or he dodges the competition, and does the JV race in the marathon, revealing him to be the hypocritical coward we've come to see him as. I think it'll be a lose-lose and it'll hurt his channel.
