Kincaid 12:58, Lomong 13:00, Centro 13:00 at Nike Track in Beaverton!

I live about an hour and a half drive away. I wasn't willing to drive all the way there after work to see some guys run 13:10-13:15. Now, if I knew how fast it was going to be, I would have made the trip. Simply phenomenal. Wish I had been there.

Too be honest: As a non American I don´t know what "top PREP 2- milers" mean. But from Centro´s IAAF profile I can see that he has not run any fast 5000m for years. So I still think it looks strange that he in a season where his 1500m best is far from his PB suddenly runs 5000m in 13.

An athlete with Centro's pedigree in the 5000m including his HS career when he appeared as if he'd be better over 5000m than 1500m/mile should be able to run 13 flat or better.

Guess he was looking so good in workouts & at USAs that Jerry wanted to keep him, Centro & Lomong together as training partners, maybe with Woody as the designated pacer for their track workouts.

If he had gone to Europe . . . and likely would have run the 3k at the Europe-USA dual in Minsk on Tuesday . . . I wonder if the Portland 5k race last night would have even been held . . .

Woody isn't a pacer for workouts anymore than Matt or Lopez are.

Astute point! But everyone knows plants and trees are asleep by 9pm (when this race went off). If they were really trying to take advantage of oxygen rich air, they should have scheduled it for high noon when all vegetation is respirating. Congrats on taking 'absurd' to a whole new level.

How do we know the track is accurate?

saw this race in person last night, one of the cooler track atmospheres i've been at (and i was lucky enough to see solinsky's sub 27 in palo alto). few things i would say:

- way more than 300 people attended, and as others mentioned it seemed like mostly high school kids and track fans

- anyone saying 'im a fan of the sport and this is not exciting' was clearly not there and hasn't see any footage of the event

- still completely blown away by Woody's performance. can't stop thinking about how sick that was to witness.

Were the drug testers there to test the 3 BTC runners?

The track was a bit water logged and was covered with wet leaves and debris that rained down from all of the trees on the infield. I don’t see the advantage.

More people showed up for this race than showed up for USATF Outdoor finals. 2,500 people showed up on a Tuesday. That’s more than showed up for Payton Jordan or Oxy.

LRC proves over and over that self described track fans WILL NOT pay to support the sport. We do not attend events in person. We do not pay for FloTrack, Runnerspace, or NBC Sports Gold. And we do not buy gear at our local SRG. We do not give AF.

What incentive does BTC have to race outside of Portland or Eugene? People do not show up.

honestly that track should be a DQ in and of itself. i imagine if you built a track and put a huge artificial windbreak in the middle, people would call that into question. why is this any different?

The dated are slightly muddled because I tried to fit the college performances into the academic year rather than calendar year, but close enough. I'm also ignoring 800, 3k, 10k, and 2 miles as none of those seem to be as good as his 5k times.

Looks like he has always dropped big chunks of time from his 5k pr:

- 10 seconds in 2015

- 17 seconds between indoor and outdoor in 2016

- 15 seconds in 2017

- 14 seconds in 2019

I realize 14 seconds when you're at 13:12 is different than when you're at 13:58.
