Psychological prop is only part of the benefit. It is not the sole benefit. 'Performance enhancing drugs' are not placebos.
I don't buy the placebo argument. There might be some effect in that regard but PEDs obviously do more than that. And the subject of this thread should know that, even though the effects did not seem to work on him.
Could be several reasons for this. Dose levels needed to be tweaked; wasn't on it long enough; at the end of his career anyway, and such (maybe some before and after testing with a 5K or something would have been more telling than not "feeling" its effect); feeling a bit guilty (negativity/stress can affect one's performance as much or more than the enhancement of the supplement, if you follow).

Malmo's 1985 training logs are available on the web. You can read them and draw your own conclusions.
I drew the conclusion that malmo was one of the more honest and reliable commentators on this here letsrun.com. Much more so than the journalists who run this website.

I couldn't find any articles published by Jim Ferstle or anything suggesting suspicion about AW et al in his blogs about doping:

It claims that detailed handouts about steroids were given to Athletics West runners, explaining how to use steroids, how to avoid detection, specific programs, etc. The narrator suggests that Athletics West at the time was not necessarily encouraging their athletes to use steroids, but were putting the information out there for anyone who was interested - I think the term "enabler" was used.
It is further suggested that there might have been two camps within AW: Bob Sevene being against steroids, and Dick Brown being pro-steroids. In the interviews, Dick Brown doesn't seem to try to dispel the notion that he was in favor of steroid use.
I'm wondering if you found this part of the documentary to be accurate as far as your experience with AW. Were you ever given a steroid info pack (I'm assuming not, as it seems like something you would have mentioned in your recollection about your stint on steroids)? Were you aware of such a handout? Does the depiction of Bob Sevene vs Dick Brown seem fair to you?

Sorry, but I don't answer every question that's stupid. Sometimes I answer stupid questions, which makes me feel stupid when I do. If I ever answered every stupid question from demanding children, not only would I feel really stupid, it would make me insane.
