I had not seen this before but it makes sense and fits the pattern, being farther out from the important competition.
A method often used was called "gradual drawing up", where more training was done like above, then reduce prior to important competitions, as mentioned before.
This differs from Lydiard, who would have none of the above training in off season. Gershler's training was more like Renato Canova uses today, though Harbig was a 400/800 runner.[/quote]
I would love to see a full year schedule. It would explain so much.
So this gradual drawing up process was when the proportion of this type of session and the standard type of session began to change. And as this session became more and more over the total training load this type of session became shorter and shorter as it approaches competition. So we see more than just a modulation of intensity and volume. We see another type of session assisting competition preparation. And we have this idea is is somehow involved in drawing up which could refer to drawing up the condition from preparation levels to competition levels.
The stuff i've see on the standard session simple outlines certain rules. Like this play between the four variables of distance of repetition, duration of recovery interval, pace of the repetition and number of repetitions. And that race pace was to be the pace of the repetitions. So this determined the other three variables. The other rules like length of repetition was to remain the same within the session has come out of this casual internet research. Work interval was the be done to 180bpm and the recovery interval to 120bpm.
Anyway that's what i've got so far. You don't have a standard session template do you?
