Appreciate they have an 800 to think about, but allow it to drop to 3:35s and you're gonna miss out on this $100k per slam. Same exact thing the 5000m guys do with Jakob at major championships.
The 1500 guys totally messed that up. Why in the world would you not run the wheels out of every 800 runner by going 5 seconds faster?
Easy. Because Jakob is not in the race to follow. Welcome to the real world Hocker, Nuguse and Kerr.
Kenny nearly went flying over that tape. I'm telling you now something terrible will one day happen with these stupid things. Don't come crying to me when it happens!

A good act does not wash out the bad, nor a bad act the good
Cole Hocker, the greatest racer over 1500. Give me a break. Serious beat down. Kerr, Yared and Hocker can get on their knees and thank Jakob for transforming the 1500. Yes, for now with Jakob pacing one of them will win the championship 1500s for now, sub 3:30. If they ran it the old way, Wanyonyi would be routinely wiping the floor with them. Wanyonyi will break the 800 world record and then I hope he sets his sights on the 1500 in future years.
i dont think these guys really know how to run a tactical 1500 anymore, although it may just be that they're not training for it, because championships are always sub-3:30 races now. When was the last time any of these guys ran a 3:35 or slower race with top competition?
Anyone notice that Hoppel beat Attaoui for 7th by less than one-hundredth? Both clocked 3:39.78.
I did - could be important for the overall standings except I also noticed they were absolutely busting it. You wonder if Hoppel wouldn't have been better off just jogging the straight and running 3.42 and really trying to contend with EW tomorrow?
fred kerly did get out hard in this race as opposed to being disrespectful in the first race and being disrespectful to peace officers. what is the connection here? glad to see better behavior from this "person"
So, I'm enjoying dipping in to watch a race, then skipping over to watch basketball. Fourteen minutes between a 20 second race and a 50 second race. This is why track will never be a spectator sport.
Let’s be real, Jakob would have won this easily. 1:50 for the final 800m with a 3:30 win.
Wanyonyi closed in 51.5, and seemingly still had some left in the tank, not sure Jakob could've matched that. That said, he's definitely in the mix, as he also closed the Budapest semi in 51.6 which was a 3:34.99 race. Jakob's kick is actually underrated I'd say.
Neil Gourley was also at 52 for the final lap, do you really think he’s challenging Jakob? I’m not trying to knock on Wanyonyi as this was a great win, and it seems like the other big three weren’t fit enough or largely underestimated Wanyonyi to let it go slow like that. I believe it was the former. Jakob understands race dynamics like these and would have run the kick out of the others starting from 1000-1200m out. Wanyonyi’s 51-52 turns into 53-54 if he has to run 55 for the penultimate lap and 57 before that.
He showed up at the World Championships weeks ago and won. I’m not knocking Wanyonyi but the other three either weren’t fit enough or made a mistake in not pushing 56-57 pace with 1200m to go.
I believe this thread is about Grand Slam Track. You said Jakob would have won this race. You have to show up to win. He didn’t.
I also believe that this forum is about running, so I can mention a runner that is tangentially related to the race occurring.
Ok, Sydney has to show up and win diamond leagues, she doesn’t. Lol.
I’m not sure I understand the strategy Hocker/Kerr/Nuguse had in the 1500. They might have just cost themselves several thousands of dollars by letting it go to 3:35. Did they seriously think that was going to be fast enough?
