I like that Ingebrigtsen is no faster than Tom Courtney was over 800 in the '50's yet can put two 1500's together at the same speed as Elliott and Snell ran one in the '60's. Powerful stuff!

I agree, his 7:11.2 from whenever was really impressive.
So you think 3:38 and 3:50 (which is what Beccali ran in '32) are comparable?
Do you think 3:38.40 was the maximum Coe could achieve on this day, Dumb? He won't answer, it would even for him destroy his whole "point".
That 3:38 wasn't the fastest 1500 Coe ran isn't the point. It is simply that he would never have expected to put two of them together - or that anyone would do that, and especially a 1500 runner he would have absolutely killed over 800. There is no more blatant demonstration of what drugs can do now. The slowest 1500 champion in decades can run twice the distance at the same championship speed of far faster 1500 runners before him. It says everything you need to know of what peds can do.

Most of Elliott's mile races were in the 3:57-59 region, Snell's times only a little faster (he ran the 1500 once in his career, in Tokyo, when he ran 3:38).

"championship speed" - I like it, really.
Championship speed is what they just ran in Paris - notwithstanding Jakob's apparent time-trialling from the gun.

Agree. 3:57 was their maximum.
That wasn't the claim. So as usual you are only agreeing with yourself.
Haven’t seen the race yet, but Komen’s solo effort without Wavelight is, to me, more impressive.
The question is: where do things go from here? We had Bolt and then Blake was on track, but got derailed. To maintain drama, he needs some serious comp.
Who will it be? Will they be better than he is? Are they already on the track? Is this as 9.69 was to 9.58–i.e. will we see him go even faster, fairly soon? Will he totally put it away, for a looong time?
Yeah and what about the other records? Which is the biggest? 1500m?
Is this a joke? He just got rolled by 3 different guys in the race he most wants to win. He has plenty of competition. We said it before the Olympics - he could ahve set the 1500m WR in Monaco and I'd still have serious doubts as to whether he'd win the Olympic 1500 title.
This is more of the same. Despite being in this amazing shape, he still got rolled by Hocker, Kerr and Nuguse in Paris.
I just watched the Falmouth Road Race elite mile and these guys are studs, running 3:53 for the mile. Jacob just basically ran their pace for almost double the distance! Just shows you what a big jump in talent the Diamond League is and how good you have to be in order to just get a lane. Jacob then absolutely destroyed everyone in the field and took down a record I never thought would be broken. He is in a class by himself and will most likely be the best runner to ever walk the earth by the end of his career.

If this isn't it, I wonder what his peak is going to look like. He's been breaking age records since he was 14 (running a sub 4 mile equivalent at 15 and finally doing it at 16) and has considered himself a pro runner since he was 8. “My biggest dream is to be better than Henrik. I think when I am about 20 I will beat him.”
It was the golden double that rippled around the world, a feat of athletic mastery most could only dream of at any stage of their careers, never mind at the tender age of 17.
The technology is much better now. They can research everything down to the smallest detail. Just knowing how much nutrition they should have, how much they should exercise, how much recovery? Everything is different. When I was young, I just trained. I couldn't measure anything. Everything is obviously better today. To believe otherwise is just nonsense
You have no idea how focussed past champions were on maintaining and building their health. But actually none of it is rocket science - except for doping. It is a simple sport.
Agreed there, past champions of yesteryear were infinitely healthier than Jakob, Josh and all. How do I know???? Come on man folks, how can I not know????????? Anthropogenic RF was fewer and less populated in 1960 and 1970 than in 2012, ain't it??????
Those who table the health factor for Armstrong and I to partake obviously knows zero about true health!!!!!!!
Health starts in the air, and that's anthropogenic RF!!!
