According to the document attached to the JV districts Athletic.net page, the top 3 runners of each team who do not have a varsity standard will get in as auto entries. Between the top 3 from each of the 13 schools in the district, that is 39 "auto" qualifiers.
To fill the fields out to 48 for each event, the 9 athletes with the best seed times (between all 13 teams) will also get to compete.
Looking purely at the 1600m, for Boise, Rocky, and Mountain View (3 of the largest teams) here is the runners will auto qualify, and how many will miss out.
Boise- 6 V districts qual, 3 JV auto qual, leaving 21 of the 30 runners without a districts to attend, or 70%
Rocky- 9 V qual, 3 JV auto qual, leaving 37 of the 49 runners (75.5%) without districts to attend.
Timberline- 5 V qual, 3 auto qual, meaning 18 runners don't get a districts (69.2%)
Obviously the impact is worse for larger teams, but even a team like Owyhee is leaving behind 73.3% of their 1600m runners (1 V qual, 3 JV qual, 11 of 15 left behind)

This does leave out the 9 who get in on time, but even with that added in, between these 4 teams, solely at the 1600m distance, there are 78 athletes getting told they don't matter because of this boneheaded change.
Not to mention, now teams will have to choose whether to have more people compete in 1 event each, or to allow their "fast" JV kids to do multiple events.
Looking at those numbers, sounds like a better solution would be to have one central meet and a second location running extra heats at the same time. Or maybe 100-400 at one location and distance at the other.
There are a ton of guys running the mile tomorrow so this will likely change, especially with CDA. Timberline has a chance to improve as well.
My guess is that CDA will drop their 5 man average by a full second tomorrow. It's also important to note that several of those CDA guys have run only run two 1600's this year, and 2-3 meets in general. Parker Goggins has run 6 meets this year, Jaymon Clark has run 5 1600's. Not really in the same boat right now.

Great run by Wyatt. Hopefully he hasn't grinded too much too young, and he will continue to improve over the next few years.
Unfortunately, too many freshman stars these day never really improve much over the rest of their careers (even someone like Hyrum Tuft who was a stud as a freshman, but hasn't really done anything his sophomore year).

Tuft was pretty fast in middle school. Not as fast as Carr, but still fast.
Had a good chuckle looking at 3200 times. We’re probably sitting on a record number of sub 9:20 3200 times with 11 different guys.
But no one has gone sub 9:20 in Idaho yet. I’m sure some of them could have, especially the CDA boys at low elevation and Heemeyer wherever, but it’s interesting that most of them haven’t even tried hard in Idaho. We’ve become a travel to the coast to run fast state.

Heemeyer did. 9:17.17 at North Boise. Ringert did in Boise last year and he’s 12 seconds faster at this point than he was last year. It would stand to reason that Sheesley and Ringert both could considering they ran 9:00 and 9:02 at Arcadia. Why bother trying to run fast 3200’s in Boise if you are going to run a limited amount and you have it on your schedule to run at a big meet?
