Nothing like paying $10 to watch this meet and *still* getting commercials in the middle of the 5K with no split-screen
It's $10! Just $10 dollars! Just go return two more bags of your empty Mountain Dew cans and you're set.
He isn't complaining about the 10 dollars, he obviously paid it. He is complaining about having to pay it and STILL doesn't get to watch the whole race because they interrupt it with commercials. And that is a legit gripe.
looked more carefully who got through and TX W did not get several sprinters through to the final. The team race might come down to whether Britton Wilson can beat Adeleke of TX in 400 - and they aren't in the same heat. Adeleke is in heat 1 with Anning of AR and Wilson is in heat 2 with Diggs and then they of course go head to head in 4x400.
Did the Pole Vaulter bang into Nova's Charlie O'Donavan?I tried to watch replay, but it was not shown..he was in about 6th with room, and then just fell thru the back quickly, very quickly..
Natalie Cook wasnt great in HS until Sr. year. Didnt even qualify for state Jr year in the mile and was 4th in the 3200m. Barely top 10 in cross, then after her first race Sr year, flipped a switch and was unbeatable. The point is she had three years of pack running.
Here is the milesplit interview at state Jr year.
She mentions a previous stress fracture and doing 45 miles a week.
Sr year, the mention was winning state--and everything else--on 25 miles a week.
So looks like she didn't flip a switch so much as managing to stay healthy over the next year and wearing out an elliptical to do so.
Butler said in an interview yesterday that she was ill a bit this season and during ACCs, but is back to form now. She may be a big factor today if that is the case.

Lauren Gregory is going to need to make this fast to try to take it out of Butler and Maatough (and the latter may not be possible).
It didn’t look like it during the race but she never looked comfortable so maybe? She kept yo-yo ing back and forth with big surges then only to be passed again. One time going out really wide. I’m guessing she was such a front runner in HS that the inexperience of running in a very crowded pack worked against her. She never settled in. The pack didn’t break up and give people room to run until the end- by then all her random pace changes seemed to get to her? Anyways- my 2 cents from what I saw:

Ok fair. My point was if you watch her In the race her tactical abilities are terrible. She looked super uncomfortable. Maybe because she’s injured? Maybe because she mentally is struggling- I can’t imagine the pressure she has on her with the success she’s seen. Can get to a person. Just watching her in the race she reminded me of a high school inexperienced runner surging then not being able to hold her position… then running wide blah blah. I also watched her in the UW race she dropped out of. Seemed mentally out of it
her teammate Roe is a great tactician so at least she has someone to teach her along w a great coach.
Seems like nice kid. Hope she figures it out or heals from whatever injury.

While I share the frustration, it’s more liking paying for Hulu and having to watch commercials than a pay per view.
In another sense, it’s like the Olympics are on basic cable and if you want to watch you have to subscribe to basic cable.
The switch form Direct TV to 100 separate streaming services is annoying.

I think my point is if you watch her successful races- it’s when she goes to the front and hammers. With the exception of Xc nationals. But even there she’s with the top group the whole race. She doesn’t seem to know how to run tactically successfully.

Gregory has a great kick, but I agree. Based on her dmr split yesterday this final may be a lot faster than the prelim times. Ramsden might push the pace too if she can get into better position.

Cook's performance yesterday was not normal, something is probably going on. She was connected to the pack at the back but really fell off during the final k or so. She may be dealing with injury or other training disruption. Similar situation as Maddy Denner last year after a high finish during xc and a top qualifying time, finished last.

Well, she is an incredibly inexperienced runner/racer. She can't run more than 25 miles/wk or a couple races a season without getting hurt. That was the case in high school and then her first college track season she runs one race and apparently gets hurt.
So yes, she is not going to be able to make informed decisions on the fly from past experience during a race--she just doesn't know how her body is going to react.

Agreed - I was responding to the poster who brought up the fact she ran in packs in HS and wasn’t always a front runner
trusting your bodies abilities is HUGE in racing - knowing you can make a move and hold it means running w confidence and being able to mess w your competitors. KT has that nailed right now. Cook may or may not get that back. I worry she had success based on short term gains she made… and that magic may be hard to replicate long term. I’ve seen it with a lot of runners

she kind of looked like a freshman named Tuohy who seems to have gotten better tactilly and healthy. That being said their running forms are very different.
