I actually think Jamaica would also have a strong distance program if someone went to develop athletes. It’s wild when you go to Jamaica - you’ll be walking up a mountain trail in the blazing heat and humidity and old women are motoring by with grocery bags. People carry construction equipment up mountains and are going up and down multiple times a day. We see all the sprinters but there’s all kinds of people with perfect distance bodies, huge aerobic engines and a history from childhood of walking and running huge distances up mountains daily. If anyone went to train athletes they could have huge success, they’re just not at all invested in anything beyond sprinting.
