Please explain to me why this thread is 148 pages long? What did this individual do that warranted THIS much attention? What is the obsession with this person?

KIp was burning up the treadmill again at PowerHouse this morning. He was on almost 2 F'n hours. I glanced at the console a couple times- 18 miles in just under 2 hours.

I've been wondering what I could say to this guy to stir things up. I gotta be honest, I wanted to hate this dude so badly (but I didn't want him to know). So I played nice guy & asked him a few questions. Turns out doc is actually a very friendly and humble dude. He asked me about my workouts- he offered to help me with my running & asked for a few tips on lifting (I pump iron much more than run). He said he was going to run the Boston Marathon and another 'tune up' race before that.

Its very hard to be hatin on this dude. Has anyone else who posts here actually met him? I wonder what your impression is? Is there any point to me continuing to post after I see him?

There seems to be an obvious agenda with the last few posts so let's add some balance. Firstly if you really don't know why this thread is here then read this

If you think that is biased then have a look at the Delaware Marathon race director's comments

Previously someone has claimed that this is a fake page but then refused to elaborate when I asked for evidence, if you look further on that site for it to be "fake", someone has gone to an immense amount of trouble to create lots of evidence that it is genuine, why would anyone do this?

None of the serious, non-trolling people on here "hate" Dr Litton, I don't know him and sincerely I'm sure he is an upstanding citizen.

The issue really is just the one thing, the race performances, remember this is a running forum, some people seem to have forgotten (or are genuinely unaware of) this.

I have lived in the same general area as Dr. Litton all my life and have many common acquaintances. Many have seen this thread and it has been talked about extensively.

The over-riding opinion is that there are too many people that have seen him run similar or better times in training and at races. They simply don't believe that Dr. Litton or anyone else would cheat to run race times that are slower than they are capable of. This general feeling is further bolstered by the fact that Dr. Litton has had a sterling ethical reputation for over 20 years.

Calling it "garbage" does nothing to call its accuracy into question and I made it crystal clear that I am not attacking the character of someone I don't know.

Nobody has suggested that he is not a capable runner but its a very different thing to reel off a succession of marathons in the 2:50 range as you age than do one when you were younger.

I am from the same general area too. There have been several well respected people who have come onto this thread to discredit Dr. L. They have worked for decades to build their reputations in the running community, and wouldn't throw that all away over this guy. I've never met Dr. L., and probably never will. I have however, personally met people (race directors) who have DQed him from races. They are professionals, and take their jobs very seriously.

IN SUMMARY

Dr. David Kipling "Kip" Litton has been disqualified from numerous road races ranging from Montana to Delaware. Dr. Litton has not raced since this thread has been allowed to continue (early 2011). Dr. Litton's disqualifications include, among others:

Deadwood South Dakota Marathon

Missoula Marathon

Delaware Marathon

Dr. Litton won a marathon that doesn't exist and whose race website appears to have been hosted on the same place as his dental practice URL: the West Wyoming Marathon (westwyomingmarathon.com). Results of West Wyoming Marathon were confirmed false by marathonguide.com but still remain at athlinks.com. Names besides Kip Litton appear to all be fake.

Dr. Litton's M.O. seems to be as follows. He waits 1-4 minutes after the starting gun goes off to cross the starting line. He appears in the results in the top10% of all race finishers, often at the top of the Masters age category. Race photographers' websites only show him finishing close to or at the finish line, not at the other landmarks where the other participants appear. Upon review of race photographers' lost & found photos, Dr. Litton is often spotted with his race bib covered, sometimes wearing a different hat or a different pair of shoes from what he's wearing in his finishing photos.

Dr. Kip Litton was disqualified from numerous marathons in 2010, last running the Charlotte ThunderRoad Marathon in Dec 2010, a race at which he was not DQ at but fellow participants accused him of cheating at. Since this discussion was allowed to continue on letsrun.com, Dr. Litton hasn't raced. Dr. Litton is currently registered at the 2012 Boston Marathon.

I have "never" posted on this thread, but after reading a lot of it I will say this:

Firstly, I could care less about you or him.

Secondly, how does one start with one pair of shoes and somehow end up with another pair on at the finish line? If I did that my friends would turn me in and rightly so to force me to "explain" how and why I changed shoes and who gave them to me.

How does one get allegedly get himself and his teammates dq'ed from a relay in Detroit?

How does one run races that apparently never existed?

Everyone knows what happened and the cat is apparently out of the bag, so now what?

I liken this whole thing to the Seinfeld episode where Jerry had his shirt shrunk by the dry cleaner guy and didn't care why or how, he simply wanted him to admit it.

From what has been discussed locally, those who accompanied Dr. Litton on his races (mainly his wife) have all said that that these issues were addressed long ago. They provided gear changes along the course. Some of the DQs were self initiated. There may have been oddities, but nothing improper. Additionally, these issues were put to rest after several reporters interviewed Dr. Litton and others involved.

If you expect to sway those that already know otherwise, you'll have to manufacture new more believable accusations- as I said, these same old ones have already been dismissed.

I am not aware of any reasons put forward, are the various race directors? I'd be particularly interested in the reasons for results of fictitious races.

A DQ is a serious thing, I've not even had a query against me in over 500 races, to have more than one DQ is eye-opening, a DQ is a very different thing to a DNF.

What was the reason for apparently standing around at the start of a race with the race number covered up waiting until the rest of the field had gone?

Are you seriously claiming that shoe changes are a normal thing in a marathon?

Your questions show a complete lack of understanding of even the most basic facts- it has been repeated many times here that Dr. Litton raises funds for his charity by the number of runners he passes, thus the need to start in the back of the pack.

Dr. Litton has never claimed to have run a race that is fictitious. Many have been too quick to make assumptions from unverified opinions.

More advice- when making accusations, (1) stick to factual verified information, and (2) stick to illegal or rule breaking activities, not oddities.
