David Epstein/Pro Publica/BBC Story: Former Team Members Accuse Famed Coach Alberto Salazar of Breaking Drug Rules

I remember a 400H Swiss runner in the late 80s/early 90s. Her name was Anita Protti. She stated publicly that she took PED, but in doses that were very small and thus within permissible limits.

There was no problem then. Why is there a problem now if an athlete takes PED within permissible limits? You make not like it. You may not want to do it. But why is it not ok. For some reason, flying out to an altitude camp is ok, while taking small doses of a drug is not. I also take aspirin once in a while. Both small doses of PED and aspirin are ok. No?

Isn't that the guideline. It was the guideline in the early 90s (Anita Protti is the poster girl for that).

Salazar knew about microdosing a long time ago. He is the poster boy for that.

BBC news just said they are aware of 7 more athletes who have gone to usada with allegations

Coming forward know is the right thing to do. Athletes who chose to admit they failed by trusting someone too much will receive lesser discipline.

I believe Magness 100%. I just don't see how he could possibly make that stuff up knowing the unlimited resources Nike has to take him to court if he made any false statements.

My only question is why did it take so long for him to come forward? Many of us have suspected for years that he knew a lot more than he was revealing.

Look at the 2nd video down, which describes "a runner" coached by Salazar. If you watch the video, it's almost entirely obvious that it's Cam Levins (if you've ever watched an interview of Levins talking, you can tell that it's him by the way he speaks) with maybe something that altered the audio of his voice a bit so people wouldn't know it was him.

Good on him though; I'm glad he's speaking out about this and even though he requested to remain anonymous, it's good to know that he's a good guy and actually questioned drug use. I think he should speak out about this un-anonymously because I'm like 90% sure it's Levins in the interview.

It's against WADA/ USADA/ IAAF rules to take any amount, even a tenth of a milligram of synthetic testosterone, EPO, or HGH. There is no permissible limit of synthetic PED use.

It is apparently impossible for WADA to effectively test for microdose injections, but that does not make them legal. If you use any amount of banned substances you are breaking the rules period. If WADA gathers conclusive evidence that an athlete microdosed banned substance they can issue sanction without positive test.

In fact, Lance Armstrong was banned by USADA/ UCI on the basis of sworn testimony regarding Lance's blooddoping/ microdosing, etc rather than a positive test.

1) Testosterone creams are illegal. The program was saying it is possible to take them and not test positive not that it is legal to take them. Microdosing is illegal. There are no permissible limits for many banned drugs.

2) Nike needs to investigate. Sure you could say Kara and Magness have soure grapes but there is John Stiner and let's not forget 3 different NOP athletes alleging doping violations by Alberto or the Nike lab. One guy said the lab told him to take testosterone. That is a doping violation.

The report says of the other two, "Two Oregon Project athletes say Salazar encouraged them to use a prescription medication they either didn't need or weren't prescribed. " If true, this would be a doping violation as well by Alberto. So that is more than just some receipt saying he shipped something to Alberto one time. I

So you have Kara alleging a doping violation or crime (being told to take a prescription she did not have), Stiner linking Alberto to androgel, Alberto admitting at the very least Galen was taking Testoboost in high school, Magness alleging shadiness/possible violations, and 3 more NOP members alleging doping violations.

Is Nike ok with this?

I guess I don't understand why he doesn't have more proof. Apparently there was this huge doping regimen going on in a team that he was intimately involved in yet all we have is one picture of a piece of paper and some stories. I know that if I was on a team where everyone was doping but me I'd at the least take some pictures of it - or maybe come out at the time it was going on and not 8 years later but I admit that's kind of a crazy solution.

And certainly no one ever makes up stories even when it doesn't appear that they have anything to gain.

Don't forget the long list of things that didn't work: testoboost, l-carnitine, sodium drinks, etc. How many things has Alberto tried that "didn't" work? How many things did work that remain top secret?

That there is a "huge doping regimen" is not the claim Magness makes, but that is besides the fact. He is telling the story of a pattern of the push-the-ethical-boundary culture that he noticed when he was there. It is not hard to believe at all that Sal and Rupp would succeed in keeping it all from him and only slipping up a couple times. You are being dense.

What is this financial gain he has to make all of this up?

yes, I am assuming that there is a big nasty, and what the Gouchers and Magness and the 'actor' are saying are true. Those are clear violations. using testosterone on his son and testing him? using unprescribed prescriptions? surreptious mailing of pills? a chart saying rupp was using peds?
