I'm wondering if Jakob would have won today's 2 Mile with the training he has had, probably not but an 8:07 with a 56 second close doesn't seem too out there for himself.....
Remember, Jakob is not kicking in an 8:07 race, he is making the last 1K unbearable to handle in a 8:00 race. In that kind of race, you take Hocker out of the equation really easily while he is stuck behind a few people mid race.
Anyway, Jakob wasn't there, so doesn't really matter. Good work Hocker, the race played out perfectly for him - but I'm not sure about him breaking any records or running fast times this outdoor season. It is not his style of racing and will always revert to type - he just loves finding himself in a race that has slowed up a tad and hunting down the win.
Is it normal for a pro to be running with mouth closed at the end of a 1000m race (as Congdon was)? I figured even elites would need max oxygen for a race over 2 and a half minutes but maybe I’m wrong, or maybe she can get max oxygen via nasal breathing alone. What’s the science on this? (She’s obviously in great shape and raced very well)
Interesting to see Sahlman in the 800 here. I know he made the 800 final at USAs outdoors, but will he ultimately be a miler or a 5k guy? The only person I can think of that made both the 800m and 5000m us finals (and 1500m, and 10000m) is Lopez Lomong, though I am sure Sahlman will join him soon
HE'S HERE TO WIN 1:44.70 CR
