She ran 4:35 today at Duke…for the 1500 (3000 PR is 9:02, 4:31 pace). Time to enter the portal?
Her PB is 4:14.24 from June 2023 and ran 4:14.90 to place 2nd at NACAC U23 in July 2023.
I hope Sadie Englehardt is paying attention. NC State is not the place for 1500/milers.
While maybe none are true milers, the current group of Hartman, Gapes, Putman, Napolean seem to be on a good track, and Michalak is also showing good signs as a true FR.
Yes, whatever the issue is, it started her senior year of hs.
And without knowing what that issue is, we can't really judge how NC State is doing at helping her move past it, or whether other college programs would be any better. Give it time. Maybe she's right where she should be.

Apparently, Coach Henes and NC State can only develop runners from Ohio, NY and New Zealand. Must be something in the soil.🤔

Freddie squeezed it out of her, nothing left.
Most parents are paying clubs like emerging elites to increase their kids chances of college scholarships (both through the training, adequate training partners, and connections), not maximizing performance when they are in their 20s. Id think in the case of Shea, mission accomplished - and same goes for a lot of their athletes. It's a model that seems to work well for families with a lack of otherwise good training resources but no lack of money.
The downside is that they seem to almost have a monopoly on the market for the Boston suburbs. Would be nice for there to be a competitor as I'd think a lot of their athletes would be better off under a different system. What would it take for one of the other local coaches like Eric Ashe to start an "elite" youth program?
I guess Henes squeezed everything out of Tuohy, nothing left.
If that’s the case, good for her. No regrets; it’s time to get onto something else. Running is simply a journey; if you can reach your destination early, why not take it?
She should lower the expectations. Rebuild a solid base, establish a good routine, be healthy and happy no matter the race results.
True. As long as she enjoys the process, it’s great.
The Pings were the best 2 runners at Cotter and have made NXN before, but at Oklahoma state, neither of them have raced at the XC national meet yet. But Shea already has. Last fall. Something to be grateful for
Guessing that she sort of decided but didn't sign until now. I laugh at all of the idiots thinking she would be willing to pay close to $400K at an Ivy rather than choose a scholarship.
Why NC state? Why not Duke?
Ummm… maybe because they won multiple championships?
