I wonder if the NAU guys will show their altitude advantage more in the 3k. A hard 5k at altitude - especially with a hard close - does a number on you.
It didn’t look like it during the race but she never looked comfortable so maybe? She kept yo-yo ing back and forth with big surges then only to be passed again. One time going out really wide. I’m guessing she was such a front runner in HS that the inexperience of running in a very crowded pack worked against her. She never settled in. The pack didn’t break up and give people room to run until the end- by then all her random pace changes seemed to get to her? Anyways- my 2 cents from what I saw:
Natalie Cook wasnt great in HS until Sr. year. Didnt even qualify for state Jr year in the mile and was 4th in the 3200m. Barely top 10 in cross, then after her first race Sr year, flipped a switch and was unbeatable. The point is she had three years of pack running.
Nice work by "Sophomore" Casey Clinger. How old is he exactly?
BYU has Casey Clinger on their roster as a Senior. If you are worked up about his class status of sophomore, you can take that up with NCAA. Great race by Jacobs and Clinger.
Thank you so much for pointing this out. I was so mad. Then, Dwight Stones goes on to comment how "strong" he was to get distracted from being hit because the vaulter was in lane one during a race
