Absolutely we need more IRS agents to enforce the tax laws. Why should honest tax paying citizen pay the share of taxes for those who are cheating? Talk about not fair! How could any honest minded citizen be against this?
However as far as the other topic, I am very much against this cowardly and lying group of Republicans running for office, but I this this loan forgiveness plan is a very very poor plan. (I identified my strong reasons for this in another post.) I am not a Republican and I do care about poor people. We can do much better than this plan. Biden caved to the more radical progressives.
The IRS is adding more agents than the entire standing military of the United Kingdom.
Well yeah, not paying your taxes is theft. We need more agents to ensure fairness and they will pay for themselves. Win win
Why do you think the government is entitled to a cut of your paycheck?
Taxation is theft. Particularly when the government wastes pretty much all of it.
You're obviously not the first person to have said taxation is theft.
The knowledge held within higher education is common human knowledge, nobody owns the Theory of Relativity for example, not even Einstein. We shouldn't have to pay to access what we already own. The fees to access knowledge that we already own is theft. Call fees 'Education Tax' and you might feel differently.

The government is over $30 TRILLION in debt.
The "knowledge" you're pretending to care about is already available online. For free.
You're actually speaking about the piece of paper that you can get that says you actually studied something.
You used to be able to get these pieces of paper for a reasonable sum of money.
Then, the government stepped in and said "hey it's not fair that people with no money can't go to college"
As with all things the government started with a reasonable problem that most everyone could agree on.
As with all things the government's "solution" made the original problem infinitely WORSE.
In this case they injected the federal government into college tuition. Suddenly, 18 year olds with no job, no money, and no collateral could get $200,000 loans fully guaranteed by the government. Suddenly, colleges and universities could triple and quadruple their tuitions and students could just borrow the money on the promise that once they got their big boy job with their arty history degree they could pay back the loan. All with ZERO risk to the schools. YAY GOVERNMENT!
No one should be FORCED to pay someone else's debts and for you college kids who took loans, YOU made a promise to pay it back, NOT me. Take responsibility and pay your debts.
Joe you really are blowing it here. Canceling $10,000 worth of student debt per borrower? You just look silly. This is the type of thing which encourages irresponsibility. You blew it Joe.
As a (fake) “Democrat” you have trouble. As a Republican you do just fine. Crawl back into your trust fund.

Thank you and FU Joe Biden.
Then by that logic I don’t want to pay for the war in the Middle East anymore. I also don’t want to pay for public education, subsidized healthcare, roads, every multinational corporation in existence.

The government makes EVERYTHING it touches worse.
I don’t think so. I’d rather the government have the final say over Elon and Jeff. I think corporations would run humanity straight into the ground if they could profit from it. The government is the only entity that can protect us from that reality. They’ve already had to protect us from many things, like Hitler and cigarettes.

Limited government.
Hitler would have been nothing without the German government supporting him.
It's frustrating that the government continues to be reactionary instead of proactive, and it's frustrating that the American public is so fickle (I'm tired of seeing bumper stickers with "F-Biden," or "Don't blame me, I voted for Trump," or "Trump 20-24 years in prison," etc)
The government created a policy where government insured student loans were being handed out like candy to KIDS who were promised a better future through higher education. Colleges took complete advantage of the windfall and now a generation of Americans is strapped with absurd debt that could have been prevented with better policies.
Easy access to financing, unnecessary government handouts, and pro-oil policies created a high demand for unnecessarily large and expensive pickup trucks. Now those pickup truck owners are hurting at the pump and struggling to pay off the vehicles.
Obscenely low interest rates caused the housing market to overheat forcing people to pay completely unreasonable amounts for houses.
Without you and your art history degree with world would be just fine.
You must be a real joy to be around
Classical liberal retorts. You must be so angry, you're insufferable, blah blah, coming from the whiners who just weaseled their way out of paying back their creditors. Tut tut.

Don’t know if you know this but republicans have college debt too

Notice how conservatives just automatically assume that anyone who doesn't have a problem with student loan debt forgiveness must have student loans themselves? They cannot fathom supporting something that they wouldn't personally benefit from.

The debt that students are "strapped" with is not that different when adjusted for inflation and income than when I graduated. You know what? I paid it off right away with no issues. You want to know why it is not "absurd" debt, because over a person's lifetime, the individual who has a degree out earns their peers without a degree:
Here are the median lifetime earnings of full-time workers by level of education: less than high school - $1.2 million high school diploma - $1.6 million some college, but no degree - $1.9 million, equal to about $47,500 annually associate’s degree - $2 million, or about $50,000 per year bachelor’s degree - $2.8 million, the equivalent of $70,000 annually master’s degree - $3.2 million, or $80,000 annually doctoral degree - $4 million, equal to $100,000 per year
The $30,000 in debt that a person accumulates going to school is a small price to pay compared to the additional $1.2 million it provides in lifetime earnings than if they did not get their degree. If someone told me I would get $1.2 million for a $30,000 investment, I would take that offer every time.
