Official 2018 NCAA XC Discussion Thread

Congrats to NAU. They are too good to be beaten right now. Honestly, I was kind of rooting against them after all the trash talk in yesterday's press conference, but they backed it up.

BYU ran a good race today, moving up consistently throughout. Mantz was awesome. It's too bad they couldn't get Carney to the start line healthy, he is definitely an All-American caliber guy who could have made things more interesting. Still don't think they could have won though.

Portland, consistent as ever. They always seem to show up when it matters as a team, although Hauger dissappointed me today. I thought he was top 5 material.

CU, great run. I don't know how they can't get a 5th guy with their reputation.

I did not read through all of the posts past his response to mine.

Do you not realize that could be a possibility? Are you incompetent? Or do you just live on assumption everyday like the original response assuming I was refering the state of Florida?

Well, CU signed Gabe Fendel, who was a stud his junior year in high school and xc of his senior year. However, whatever has been going (illness, injury) since track season his senior year apparently is lingering. I’m sure they were banking on him jumping onto their top five when they recruited him.

Claton Young of BYU was way behind where he was last year. If him and Carney were both healthy, Byu might have had a chance. Great performance still and congrats to NAU.

^this is pretty wild. Their top 3 killed it, but their depth was atrocious all year. BYU and Portland had 8, maybe even 9 guys better than Colorado's 5th this year.

Three years from now Clinger will come back from mission. He and Mantz will be competing in this same race together 5 or 6 years from now. Wait fooor itttt!

Young didn't have high score last year but has the ability I believe to score higher if healthy.

I learned to just ignore. Obviously the dude is very unhappy with his life. I posted "my bad", but that wasn't enough to make him happy. Oh well.

For the record, Grant's a very nice dude and was always kind in school...wicked smart to boot. I'm already looking forward to the Olympic Trials in 2020! 1500 or 5000!

They lost Phillip Rocha last year as has been discussed here previously. Surely they were banking on him and that scholarship spot from that class contributing this year. If he runs with Herrara, the other guy from that class, that's a team challenging for the win with the runs they got from their top 3.

well those couple of posters are significant since they own and run the site.

They have been VERY clear that there is a strong distinction between American-Born and just plain Americans and American-Born is what we celebrate around here.

And what often is missed in this discussion is that this country has a boatload of potential distance talent in the Hispanic and Native American populations. For example, overlooking Isai Rodriguez in favor of mid-race hero Mantz.

Fisher is American born. An American citizen at birth.
