Boys Top 3: Kaden Evans, Juan Gonzalez, Owen Powell
Boy’s team: Herriman

Girl’s team: Mountain Vista
Just curious: has an at-large team ever won the NXN title? Boys or girls. AF got in as an at-large and took second today.
Saratoga's boys in 2005.
Yeah, there weren't qualifying races back then, but FM and CBA were the two "bid" teams for the NE region that year. Saratoga and Morris Hills got at-large bids.
Wonder what happened to Joe Barrett today. The kid is a stud. Definitely wasn’t expecting this performance from him today. guess it just wasn’t Christian Brothers day..again
None from Niwot. Only one each from Herriman and AF.
Despite only having 3 names listed in the last Milesplit 50.
Another look at SW depth. Hunter Robbie from Niwot was 21st at NXR and 21st at NXN (27 seconds back of Vause at NXR and 24 seconds back of him today). Robbie clearly raced better today. And still... if you are any of the dozen or so boys who beat Robbie at NXR but didn't get to go to NXN (or even finished within a few seconds of Robbie at NXR), you must be thinking that you would have had a shot at finishing as an All-American (top-21) or at least top 40.

He was in good position (7th) at 2K. Started moving backwards just before 3K, was maybe 15th at that point.
After looking at the results it seems to me like the Southwest could argue 12 teams in the top 25-30. And atleast 8 teams in the top 20. I am very interested to see what the end high school rankings are going to look like.
I can tell you exactly what happened. The speed rankings are inflated for NE. He thought he could win. Went out with leaders and that pace was too fast.

Inflated? NE went 5th and 8th as teams so they are the second best region team wise on the day. Also Alex Fisher of the NE was 20th finishing in 15:52 (same time he ran at NXR), Barrett was 15:28 at NXR. Winners today were 15:28. Stop ripping kids when you have no idea what you are talking about. He had a rough day and it had nothing to do with how fast he was at the beginning of the race.

It's not an exaggeration to say that from a team perspective NXR SW is more or less on par with NXN. Both Niwot and American Fork scored fewer points at NXN than they did at NXR SW. Rio Rancho and Valor both could have been top ten teams on a good day, but they were just off at NXR so they didn't get the chance.
On the girls side, Lone Peak scored fewer points at NXN than they did at NXR SW. Air Academy was identical. Mountain Vista scored just 16 points more at NXN.
Also annoyed me how the announcers acted like Vause was a nobody. He won Desert Twilight and Chandler Rotary 3200 last year (the most competitive 3200 in the SW, beating Le Roux, Collins, the Niwot guys, the Hamilton guys, etc.). He hasn't always performed to that level, but when he's on, he can beat anyone (as he showed today).
Also the second year in a row that the winner of NXN was a SW kid that did not win NXR SW. Last year, that was true for both Ritz & Jourdan. This year it was true just for Vause.

Buchanan CA Girls was the only team that was able to podium that was not from the southwest region. Southwest took all other podium spots for boys and girls

So why don't they combine NE and New York to one region and move Colorado to midwest. This would allow for more teams to make it from the SW. Literally, Mountain VIsta's JV team could make it to NXN in other regions. Fossil Rifge was 4th at NXR and 8th at NXN. The absurdity is laughable. Chaparal should have been at NXN they would have probably been 10th. absolutely ridiculous that this is a NATIONAL meet and yet it doesn't exactly represent the best teams in the nation.

As an interim solution, they should drop the "no more than two at-large bids from one Region" restriction. This is completely arbitrary anyway. It would allow teams that get 5th and maybe 6th in meat-grinder regions to have a shot at bids.
Jane Hedengren would've placed 87th in the boy's race.
She’s on a professional level right now, period. Leachman ran against the pros before and did okay and Engelhardt got 2nd at a pro race and she gapped both these ladies today majorly, that’s scary. As long as she stays healthy I see her on a future world team.
