Forgot to include Jessica Jazwinski (Michigan). 4 recruits from or near Hartman's home state.
They always drew from Ohio, Kelsey seemed to start the NY connection. I think the team titles started drawing more widespread interest.
Yep, the Ohio connection started well before Hartman. It even started prior to Laurie Gomez (Henes). I believe that it started with Connie Jo Robinson back in the early 80s. There was an Ohio connection on the boy’s side also starting with Bob Henes who ran at Woodridge HS, a perennial distance powerhouse. There was a female from Woodridge later on. Her last name was Mercer but I can’t recall her first name. There’s also been Dominique Clairmonte & Sam Bush more recently. With Scheffler coming in this year & Brooke Chapman in ‘26, Henes has shown she values the talent coming out of the Buckeye state.
Glad to see Gapes back in action. I was a bit concerned about her since she didn’t compete in the spring.
I don’t have time to watch the video now. What sort of time did she run and how was her competition?
She ran 35 minutes and something winning the 10k race by about 2 minutes. Hard to gauge as course included several 180 degree turns and running thru muddy portions and sand traps on each 2k loop. I think they said one of her competitors had run 1:13 for a HM.
Insane! Angelina Napoleon just placed 2nd at USATF Nationals in 9:10:96. She’s under the world standard, so she’ll be wearing team USA uniforms and going to TOKYO!

I think NC State (W) has a really good team this year. But I guess many do not. ACC preseason poll shows NC State getting 12 first place votes and ND getting 6 (and Stanford getting none). Granted ND badly beat NC St at the ACC meet last year, but that flipped at Nationals, and I think NC St has had a number of runners improve since then while not so much for ND.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) ??? The NC State women and Wake Forest men have been selected as the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Cross Country preseason favorites, following a vote of the league???s 18 head coaches.
I guess the coaches have a pretty good idea of the strengths of each other's rosters. My guess is that Stanford, Notre Dame and N.C. State will all be very close to each other. All three have great freshman coming in.

For NC State insiders - wondering if you’ve heard how Hartman & Gapes are doing in terms of injuries. I know they’ve both had niggles off and on over the past year.
Also, came here to leave this…I have followed Ohio distance running & T&F for YEARS! You will all be pleased with Daniela Scheffler. She is the most talented high school runner I’ve seen come out of Ohio since the early 90s. If you’ve been an NC State for very long you know how many Ohio athletes proceed her at your school. She’ll be an all time Wolfpack great when she’s done in Raleigh.

If you follow their IG they occasionally post pics of workout sessions and the ones that I have seen show Hartman and Gapes mostly off by themselves ie. Gapes posted one to her story with a caption something like "we are sooooo back" Gapes just won NZ 10k championship XC race so I assume she is injury free.
I do follow them, and the other top teams. It can also help with recruit info.
