Was wondering how Ellie was doing at NC State. Injured, bad fit or just burned out doing all those HS races at a young age? Hope she rebounds and shines.
I was wrong by the way in guessing she would go Harvard.
Still free at NC St was full pay at Ivy can be a good choice.
She ran xc in the fall, appears to be redshirting indoor. She started xc strong and faded, as did her classmate Michalak. It's too early though to really make any broad asessment on her performance.
With rise of Hartman and Gapes plus Rauber back for sr year, and potential return of injured Stevens, NC St can be very good again next fall. In form Shea and Michalak, plus another good recruiting class coming in can really help.

I saw she also made the ACC All-Academic list -- granted, so did most of her teammates, but having that balance in her first semester as a freshman is a good sign.
Still, it's a good sign. Some freshmen completely fall apart their first semester away, and immediately becoming part of the core of a top D1 team could stretch anyone.

Michalak showed some promise last season and did get 19th at the SE cross regional meet. She'll be fine. Shea also had her moments and had a strong showing at the ACC cross meet, taking 29th. She will also be fine. I believe that neither ran indoor this year.
NC State will contend for the cross title next season. In addition to those you mentioned, Hartman, Gapes, and Rauber, I look for Stephens to be back and Angelina Napoleon has been running well this indoor season and was the 4th runner on the NC State team that probably exceeded expectations last cross season by taking 8th at the championship. The incoming class is also quite talented with 3 finishers in the top 20 at NXN - Dani Scheffler, Sadie Englehardt and Emily Wisniewski. Additionally coming in there is Jessie Jazwinski who has a 16:47 cross 5k PR as well as a 4th at the MW Footlocker and Canadian national champ Alexa Dow. While the newcomers may not immediately contribute, the future of the program looks solid.
Does anyone know what Hartman's eligibility is? She was listed as a junior for cross season but in the interview with her after the ACC cross championship she was asked about having 2 seasons remaining. She didn't correct the announcer so I am assuming that is accurate. She is listed as a sophomore for this indoor season. I am fairly sure she redshirted her freshman year. As an incoming freshman she was on the younger end of her class because I don't think she turned 18 until January of that year, assuming her birthdate on the WA site is correct.
To the idiot that accused Shea of being a "liar" earlier in the thread - get a freaking life! SMH
I definitely recall Henes referring to the 3 freshman (eligibility wise) who were 4-5-6 on the 2023 championship team. TFRRS shows no results for Hartman in the 2022 XC season which is consistent with that. She is in the middle of her 3rd track season though.
If you're addressing my post I am not sure what "claim" you're referring to.
There was someone that called Shea a liar earlier in the thread. Is that what you're referring to? I just noticed that the comment was made 8 months ago so the poster probably will not see my comment. Below is a link to that post (#230).
A person should attend a school that they feel that will give them the best chance for success. If Shea felt that NC State was that school, then she made the right choice.

Shea is entered in the 1500 and 5000 at Raleigh Relays this week.
She didn't commit until the summer but she decided last December, 2024. Sorry, Jim Bean, assuming you are not another of the mentally ill people trolling this teenage girl. You may have been simply used for her to make certain her decision but he decision occurred in December, 2024. That's part of recruiting, right? It's pretty common for coaches to continue recruiting kids that are pretty much committed elsewhere.
Both are correct. She didn't commit or she wouldn't have taken more visits. You may know that she had almost decided in her mind but the public doesn't know the inner workings.
