Unlike others, I’m not going to get emotionally worked up about this situation one way or another until we get the full facts from the trial regarding what actually happened on that train.
However, it does bother me that Neely’s family is coming out of the woodwork trying to get their 15 minutes. Where were they for the last 12 years when he was destitute on the streets and his mental situation was slowly and publicly deteriorating?
Not 15 minutes, their 15 million as they blame the system for failing their beloved family member yet not themselves.
Again, if he was a beloved family member why was he destitute, hungry and living on the streets?
A straphanger who was on the subway when former Marine Daniel Penny placed Jordan Neely in a fatal chokehold said Thursday she’s “praying” for Penny after it was revealed the 24-year-old would face…
Once you threaten peoples lives, you give them the right to act in self defense.
People are acting like the dude should have done a complete psych evaluation and history on the guy before responding to his threats. Or like they should have just waited to see if he actually tried to kill someone before responding.
Sorry, but if I tell someone I'm going to kill them, I expect them to defend themselves using all means at their disposal.

So it would’ve been fine for Penny to shoot him?
Only if he could do so safely without endangering anyone who wasn't actively making death threats.
Just curious: do people on here genuinely disagree with the concept of self defense, or do you just enjoy being argumentative?
When someone clearly states their intent to kill, do you really think the response should be to just say "that's nice" and then wait to see if they actually kill?
Their family member was just strangled to death in front dozens of people who did nothing to help him. And you call themn opportunists?
Where were they the last 10 years? Where were they when he was missing his meds, missing treatment, getting into trouble? They failed him as much or more than the system (until his killing). Yes, now they're opportunists who will undoubtedly sue for millions.
I don’t think that a crazy homeless person screaming “I would kill a MFer” gives me the right to shoot them.
Do you have the mental health background to evaluate someone as being "crazy" in a split second? Should everyone be required to be able to diagnose someone with a mental illness on the spot to determine whether their clearly stated plan is credible?
